I only saw the episode where they did 700 pushups Googly. Cant remember if it was filmed new uniform or not, it changed about 6 months ago to a grey camouflage with high-vis strips on the sleeves. Ie, worse than the plain grey overalls

Awards for both most counter-productive and most unnecessary uniforms in the bag.

And tooheys extra dry is a perfectly acceptable lager, they make awesome ads that tell me so.

Speaking about camo, check out the funky stuff we'll be wearing come 2015ish. It's joint services, so all 4 branches will be wearing these AFAIK(Army, RNLAF, RNLMC and Marechaussee)

There will be 4 versions; standard, temperate (desert), foliage (tropical/jungle) and winter. A fifth version, urban, is under consideration.

Hi-speed, lo-drag helmets. Probably for our variant of the THEM guys.

Uniform blouse in what i guess is some urban camo variant, could also be foliage. IMHO the colours don't really fit an urban situation

Desert/Arid trousers

Shot of various camo pattern panels during testing.

Trousers in various schemes

Blouse.

Both patterns and the cloth cut(I think the stuff they had in the pics was something they stitched together real quick) are still under consideration, so the final results may be different, but apparently it's pretty effective.

From what i've heard, they've taken pictures of various patterns and colours in around 80 terrain types around the world in different light conditions and seasons, and using different types of camera(UV, IR, regular etc, etc) Each shot, had a colour board on it, so a computer program would be able to reference and process the information obtained, and be able to determine the averages for each uniform, which is what they used for the pattern.
The pattern is 'fractal' so as to be confusing to the human eye. To some it might even appear to be a bit '3-D' Different fabrics and cuts/models are being tested.

Iran's latest Shameless copy of western equipment: The Tosan.

The Tosan (Also written Towan, meaning Wild Horse or Fury) is an Iranian light tank, for unconventional warfare. Production started in 1997, but the tank was only produced in small numbers. Mass production started in 2008. Colonel Nasser Arab-Beigi, head of the self-sufficiency unit of the IRGC ground forces announced the mass-production of this 'Quick Reaction' tank on June 30, 2008, as part of the country's campaign for defense self-sufficiency. Iran calls it a 'Quick Reaction' tank because the tank is said to be capable of rapid response and is built for strategic missions. It appears to be based on the British FV101 Scorpion (where Iran has 80 in service), the tank is fitted with a 90 mm gun, Toophan missile launchers and an improved firing and targeting systems. The tank can drive long distances on its tracks and does not need to be carried on trucks.

It makes sense, given russias stated goal of creating a professional modern army.

Taking a look at 22k machines, only about 6-7k are active yes? So a drop to 2k active isnt as huge as it seems. But it creates a more mobile and efficient force. For starters, you won't have situations like Georgia where your tanks were supposedly breaking down every few kilometres.

So, fewer tanks will result in greater development of tactics in the place of brute force, making smaller numbers of tanks more effective than they were before. Cheaper to maintain, which frees up funds for other measures necessary to create a modern military. Salaries, maintenance, new procurements etc.

But 22000 machines, ****, thats more tanks than we have infantry.

Sky, calm down. First of all, most of those 22000 tanks are old, obsolete models like T62s, T72s, and T64s. They're not going to do much in a conventional war against a modern army. Your MoD, I'd assume, is going to have that 2000 be modern versions like T90s or upcoming T95. It's better to have 2000 good tanks than 20000 ****ty tanks. And I think they'll still make more after that

If she does, there will probably be nukes involved. Small numbers of modern tanks will be of more use in the more probable smaller conflicts like Georgia.

Large tank armies aren't much use when the enemy can vaporise them in the blink of an eye.

A smaller force of tanks can now become more technologically advanvced and more effective. Most of your tanks are not functional and out dated anyways. Why not modernize and keep T-90s, T-80s, and heavily upgraded T-72s that will function well and be better maintained? It's all part of modernization.
