I was thinking about how maybe the new motion sensing and camera technology being developed could possibly be used in the EndWar sequel combined with voice command to improve the control scheme for consoles

For example when you want your units to take a specific route to a specific destination maybe a map could appear where you could draw the route you want your units to take
Or use it highlight and select units to form a battlegroup
And finally put buttons on the TV screen and use Natal to push the buttons to do certain commands and options

If you have any other ideas of how the new technology could be applied or voice your opinion on the notion please post

I never thought about that!! It'll be cool. But I guess they'll have 2 wait until they are near to coming out so they can develop for that. I think the wand come out in spring maybe. I think it should be in it and dont 4get about the PSeye.

I think it'll be cool if the unit talk to you through the mic.

I'd forgot about the PSeye, if they can they should adapt it to gameplay

How about a map like that which we saw in the teaser trailer last year?
You know..the one with the Smith guy..
"Arm the kinetic strike....on my position.."
The green and red map he was using inside the CV.

I'll say what I said in the RUSE forums when someone suggested this.

NO!!

Motion Controls suck.

For it to work it would have to tell apart moving around the map, selecting units, moving units, ordering units to attack, using secondary attack etc. etc.

They wouldn't be able to tell apart different aspects of the game so you could end up halfway across the map when trying to select a unit.

Sure, motion controls will work when your popping ballons but it won't work in an RTS.

NO!! Motion controls rock when you do them right!

Agree
On and N3V30 don't think that this is replacing the voice command its acting in combination with it

The Playstation wand uses the PS Eye. If any of you watched the E3 Demo by Sony, they showed an RTS using the wand + eye combo and it seemed to work very well as they used it like a mouse to circle groups of units for commands.

Don't forget there will also be buttons on the wand for ordering secondaries etc. Had a lot of potential in my opinion.

I'd completely forgot about that demo, directly proved the potential for Console strategy games, i hope the EndWar devs were watching E3 that day.

For those who want to know if Endwar devs have thought about this, I can tell you the answer is:

YES!

Here Mike DePlater tells us the potential future of Natal with RTS games:

"“Natal doesn’t only have the camera, but the microphone as well,” he said. “The combination of voice and gesture could be really powerful and immersive.
“You could definitely drag selection boxes, and you could definitely point with enough precision to tell people where to go.”

Now i'm REALLY interested in the idea, i think it should be like how perk89 put it, to have the option to do it like in the first Endwar trailer

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the only way we ever see this kind of interface is when both microsoft and sony have the "wand" things, the technology in a camera is just not enough alone to do half of the things natal is advertising and until microsoft catches up with a similar system then no cross-platform games will ever support them fully.

Seeing as Microsoft is only now announcing the camera while PS eye has been out for awhile it wont be any time soon, not even this sequel I'm hearing about.

If the project natal voice command system is as good as they make out then this opens up the possibility for 100's of different voice commends.

only natals voice command tech would be worth using on Endwar 2 not that motion sensor stuff.

great topic mrrandom004

You mean if the microphone is good enough? Because the voice recognition would be from the game, not the natal thing.

I think they should include some sort of small projector, to project something like what Gen. Smith had in the first CG movie we saw of Endwar.

The projector would work in tandem with the camera on the natal, which would recognize motion/movement you make on the surface the control map is displayed on, then translate that to the game.

If voice recognition is a integral part of Natalm it'll be included in the Natal SDK, which would make it extremely(relatively speaking) for devs to integrate it as well, seeing as all the boiler plate code is already done. The Endwar devs already have experience implementing voice recognition systems as well(i only wish the sequel would be made by Montreal or the French teams, not Shanghai. They have a long way to go imho)
