hi ive been able to play the demo when its not the steam version with problems but still able to play. i am planning on buying this game so i tried the steam downloaded demo and ive had many problems. ive encountered a c++ visual error, memory cannot be read error which happens the most because i cant get to the main menu and i get the idirect 3d error. here is my dxdiag

ive tried the -dxlevel 90 ive played around with settings meaning right click on desktop> properties> settings> advanced > troubleshooting > i set my hardware acceleration so that its supposed to correct severe problems with direct x.
when it first came out i tried the demo and it worked and i could play. the only thing i manually changed would be video card drivers.
also i get the white z on the beginging ubisoft movies but that happened before and it still worked. does anyone have any ideas?

Radeon 9000 is very very basic and outdated, does not support DirectX9.0c (only up to DX8.1 --- so, the dxlevel 90 trick you tried would never work anyway), it only could run the game in DX8 mode.
Your VIA chipset drivers are far outdated,
your paging file is too small...

The demo is not the same as the game, if it (partially) runs on your PC doesn't mean the game will (for DM, you should not consider the demo a test).

But don't bother: you need Windows XP SP2 or Vista. Then, to get a satisfactory display of the running game you'd have to have a decent, DirectX9.0c supporting videocard.

do u see any cause for memory dumps by looking at my dx diag? also if i update my chipset drivers would anything bad happen? how do i set my processor from not powersave mode? my dad doesnt want me messing around cause he doesnt want to have to restore it. lol

Dxdiag isn't the place for memorydumps. It only shows the hard- and software status for DX on the machine. The CPU may run at 1 Ghz at the moment you do light tasks such as creating a dxdiag report, but as soon as CPU gets real work to do it will switch to full power and speed. This is a setting in BIOS. If your dad doesn't want you messing with it just leave it then. This PC is not built for gaming anyway.

You update your chipset driver for increased stability and compatibility with more recent media files playback, certain issue-fixes, and newer functions. But not needed if you don't use the computer for such purpose. For instance it provides this update:

...but your sytem doesn't use SATA, it is all IDE on it.
But previous versions had a problem playing certain videofiles (the DM fmv's -bink files- were affected). Nothing bad will happen by installing the latest version. But as the saying goes: if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
But again, don't bother as it's not your own machine apparently and you need Windows XP (and a better videocard) for this game.
