As gorgeous as it looks with everything maxed out, I've set Shadows to low, GFX to medium, Shaders to low, HDR off and and models and textures to medium, and while it isn't quite as breathtaking, I haven't had a single crash since. And I've gotten a fair way through the game. It used to crash at every load screen. I haven't had a problem yet, so this is where my settings will stay, until Arkane can patch the engine to work with the latest drivers, or ATI works their next driver set around the engine.

Valve has nothing to do with this - that's kind of like blaming EB Games, or Wal-Mart, if one of the games you bought from there didn't work.

Ubisoft isn't to blame except for the pressure that they can put on smaller companies to release games before the team is satisfied, and it's been through a full round of QA.

It would appear that DM's game engine is the same as Half-Life 2 which had the same problem. Not sure if it was previously resolved?

Another $40 dollars wasted. Not the first time - Ultima IX - hmm!

Update: Setting the textures to medium works for me, so I have a workaround and the game looks good enough for now. Hopefully they will come out with a patch to fix the issue properly soon, like they've promised.

Not here, dinobot. People who request help after they thoroughly tried DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions are asked to post the WHOLE dxdiag thing and the settings export because the truth is in the details.

well i'm one person who is realy having trouble with it but -dxlevel 70 works for a while till it crashes the game due to problems, even tho i have been able to play further than previous attempts without any such lag.

i'm thinking to boost 70 - somewhere up to 80 and see what i does, even though i'd think 90 would just bring up the initial problem.

Look dinobot. Dark Messiah is a DirectX9.0c game. The -dxlevel parameter informs the game your card's hardware support. When putting level 80, the game writes lower settings in registry so that the game would still run. But this will never work on cards that don't fit within the system requirements for the game. And downside is that the cinematics will not be played.

You better make sure your system fits the requirements for the game, it looks to me it doesn't.
