whenever I run my Dark Messiah game(running on Steam) the "preparing to launch dark Messiah" screen pops up, but then right before it loads the game it says "[Bink]Error Opening File. Not a bink File. Skipping video." I have tried restarting the computer, reinstalling the game from steam, and neither work. I read the troubleshooting thread, but it was littl help, and i have included information from the "bink troubles" thread:

"1. Did you first installed Single Player from the Dvd Version ?"
No, I bought it from the team store.

"2. Did you then at some point, install the Multiplayer version ?"
No, i wanted to be able to play the single Player before experiencing Multiplayer.

"3. Did you then notice if the Single Player was being downloaded by Steam, while it shouldn't since you had installed it from the DVD Before"
since i downloaded it for the Steam store, I have not used the DVD.

"4. Did you try playing Single Player from Steam while you had installed it from the DVD ?"
Again, I did not have the DVD to install it from.

Also, i attempted to apply the 1.02 patch because the patch notes stated that it "fixed an error with Bink video on Nvidia GeForce video Cards.(I happen to have a GeForce 7900)

Please read this thread: DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions. Try the -dxdlevel 90 fix in Error =2= described in >POST 4<; if you need more assistance post your dxdiag (as explained in >POST19< of that thread) in your next reply.

alright, when attempting to do that, it gives me the exact same error i had before. Before i post my dxdiag, i'll let you know that he error i get specifically states "[Bink]Error opening file: not a Bink file.. Skipping video" and it is not one of the errors mentioned on the Troubleshooting thread(which i did make sure to read before posting =D). either way, here is my dxdiag:

Try this:
Download and unzip binkw32.zip, then
copy&paste this binkw32.dll file into your STEAM\SteamApps\*your account*\dark messiah might and magic single player\bin
folder.

You read the thread. but you missed a few instructions apparently.
1. Enlarge and fix your paging file to 4096MB (at least)
2. Update your nVidia drivers
3. Update your DirectX9 to the latest version
4. Disable hardware acceleration on your soundchip

Oh and of course do not try to apply any of the patches, they are for the Ubisoft version; the Steam version is automatically updated.
