I loaded up Dark Messiah and when i clicked the icon, it loaded up the unisoft video, then the next one, then the main intro movie. After the intro movie i got a screen that said Dark Messiah Might And Magic, and then the mouse arror flickered and the screen went black. A few seconds later i was on my Windows Vista screen (32-bit) and got the MM.EXE Has Encountered A Problem Error.
I came here and saw many fixes (run with windows XP, binkw32.dll move file etc).
None so far have worked.

I was wondering if anyone could please give me some more ideas because i am getting peoper frustrated with this game!

How can you expect help without showing how far your system and settings meet the conditions for the game? The info you are expected to post is detailed in DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions [POST 19]. Post the LOT, also the version of the game of course...

Ok, im sorry. I got confused, which is why i sent the wrong thing.
Anyways, i did what you said to do. The intro videos (ubisoft, proper intro etc) all played as a black screen with a white diagonal line through them. Then it went to the Dark Messiah screen and gave me the same mm.exe error.

The solution to that, is to fix the DX9.0 hardware support.

You do that by applying the -dxlevel 90 parameter to the shortcut (see DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions [POST 4]),
-then launch the game,
-then exit the game again and remove the parameter from the shortcut.

THEN again export your mm-key, open it in Notepad, copy and paste the settings i suggested above. Double-click the .reg file you just edited to import it back into registry.

Alrite, just did the dxlevel 90 thing. And the videos played properly.

And ive just done the settings thing again but i am still getting the error.

I tried toe game on my friends pc, and it worked fine, but on my PC it doesnt want to work (even though people with the same set up as me have gotten it to work).

Defragment your harddiskdrive(s).
Try Auslogic is freeware and Vista compatible, does the job much faster than the standard windows defragger.

oh and from your first post, do NOT use Win XP compatibility mode on the game! If you did, undo that.

Ok, defragmented the PC, and also i only tried running with XP Compatability the one time, so have already changed it back to vista.
The game still will not load to the main screen.

I suggest you:
-above the Start button in the Search bar type in
msconfig
then hit Enter.
On the starting up items tab, untick everything.
On the services tab, hide all Microsoft services and then untick all third party services.

Reboot PC.

Make sure you have NO parameter added to the game's shortcut. Try the game.

If it still does not work:
while you still leave all those items unticked reinstall/repair the game exactly following DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions [POST 3] and reinstall the patches.

And make sure you have installed the Vista hotfixes! http://www.nvidia.com/object/windows_vista_hotfixes.htmlThe first one in the list is not automatically installed by Windows Update, you have to do it manually.

ok when i unticked the items, and checked the parameter was gone, the game still did not work.
I Uninstalled and then reinstalled the game and then the patches and it still wont work.
