I recently downloaded this game via steam and I'm having some real problems running it. My PC is well and truly above the spec needed to run this game yet after 2-5 mins of playing it becomes totally unplayable. (FPS gets lower and lower) I've scanned these forums and done all of what it says (not removed Steam as I've only just installed it). updated sound, chipset and video drivers to all the latest WHQL drivers. I really want to like this game as I've been looking for something like this for ages (dont know why I've not seen it before) defragged HDD. lowered all the settings to the most basic, run at 1280 x 1024.

It runs smooth as silk at 1600 x 1200 all details on max for about 5 mins, but after that it's downhill. the same happens no matter what settings I use.

Anymore suggestions?

Oh yeah I've put some command into the startup -heapsize 1048576 doesn't make a difference

Help.

PC spec as follows

Vista 64bit SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3ghz
4gb of ram
geforce 8800 GT

Completely uninstall (including registry cleaning and deleting any remains on the hdd, using ccleaner) then reinstall (very latest version of-) Steam is the fix,
next to not having virtual drives and software installed that Securom copyprotection is against.

Tried that last night, I'm even using the steam beta client... Still no joy.

Dont think I have any virtual drive stuff on these days, did have deamon tools a while back but that was uninstalled long ago. well before starting to use steam anyway.

Such a damned shame. I really like what I can play of the game but changing resolution every 2 mins is starting to ruin the experience Frown

Well after over a week of pain and suffering trying to get this OLD game to run at anything like a playable FPS I'm giving up and removing it from my system. Such a shame as it's just what I'm looking for. Gonna get my money back as it clearly isn't fit for purpose.......

Well I've deleted the game, done everything mentioned here. Only thing I haven't done is format C: and reinstall windows as that's not an option.

As for support from the steam support tech people, logged a "call" with them sometime around 6 days ago and I've not heard a sausage from them.

So it's bye bye to Dark Messiah Frown
