For the hundreth time, None of the -dxlevel fixes work.

Come up with something else.

HI I HAVE A PROBLEM
I INSTALLED DARKMESSIAH, AND I CAN'T PLAY IT.
FIRST I CAN ENTER IN THE GAME BUT WHEN I TRY TO LOAD THE GAME SAVED, IT APPEARS A MESSAGE SAYING THAT THE MEMORY CAN NOT BE READ,AND IT SHUTS DOWN.
THEN WHEN I TRY TO ENTER THE GAME AGAIN IT DOESNT RUN.
WHAT SHOULD I DO????? DARK

Well first off don't type all in caps it means ur yelling on the forum but you probably didn't know that. Second before anyone can assist you we'll need to know something about ur computer setup. What cpu, amount of ram, video card, video ram, page file size, video drivers, dx level, did u dl the game from steam or are you using the retail dvd out of the box, do u have patches 1.01 & 1.02 installed ? There probably wont be an easy cure if thats what ur looking for. Most people here waited over 8 weeks and it still doesnt play for them. The game was poorly developed and released before being fully tested and as a result lots of peeps are plenty pi$$ed off. There's plenty of info now on the forum but most peeps problems are all different. This ain't gona be easy.

sry by the caps ,i was a distraction. my computer has readon x600 256mb,1gb of ram,200g of memory, its a pentium4 cpu 3.40ghz and i bought from the box dvd

Well ur card and cpu are on the supported list so thats good, u have the dvd version which means u need to patch the game with 1.01 & 1.02 before you can proceed further. Did u get the patches yet ? If not go to wwww.fileplanet.com and dl and install the patches. While 1 gig of system should be sufficient I have found in the past 8 weeks or so that 2 gigs works much better. You shouldn't have to do this but because of poor developement you might have to. You will also gain the benefit of everthing else running better. I make it a point to always max out the amount of ram my motherboard can support not only for games but for everthing else. What is ur virtual memory set to ? Check it as follows: go to your control panel and click system, advanced, performance settings, advanced, virtual memory change and choose custom size and make min 2046 and max 4092 click ok/apply all the way out to your control panel and you'll have to restart your system for the changes to take effect. If it had no effect try doubling these numbers so the min is 4092 and the max is 8184. It's also a good idea to defrag your computer after this so the page file is in a defragmented state.

You might also want to try launching the game with dx 81 instead of 90 as follows: right click on the DM launch Icon then click properties and at the end of the lauch string add as follows: -dxlevel 81 so it should look something like this: mm.exe -dxlevel 81

hi again, i have done everything u said but still continues not to work only one thing that im not sure, u said to start the game whit dx81, i put like this "C:\Programas\Ubisoft\Dark Messiah of Might and Magic\mm.exe" -dxlevel81. ist wrong?? dark

put a space between -dxlevel and 81 like this

one thing that i dont understand when i instaled the game appeared 4 icons saying darkmessiah single and the other multiplay but two of them whit the pictur of DM and the other 2 whit the steam.so where do i put the dx 81???

Since ur playing from the DVD on single player u can disregard the steam icons. The icon u launch the game from you right click on it then click properties and ul see a string where it says target. At the end of that string put a space then type -dxlevel 81 then click apply and ok and then try to launch the game.

Wow, I told u this wasn't going to be easy. You might be one of those that have to wait for the next patch. Are you able to increase your system ram from 1gig to 2gigs of ram ? Also take a look here for some special info regarding the game and how to tweek ur system.

I have nothing "big" but ..

my card is a x1800 xt 256 mb

ON videos i get a little white/yellow line on the bottom black beam with the 1280 x 1024 resolution.

on 1024 x 768 or lower i dont get this line.

tried different drivers .. allways the same.

1 and 2, I installed both at same time with DVD disk.

3, Both SP and MP versions is being updated right now. And atm. I've been through two major bugs,

1(Wich I guess is fixed with my new driver): It restarted the PC after doubleclicking on the shortcut, now it does'nt - Just installed GF 6800 driver v 93.71

2(Experiencing this atm): It's all white - Except the top and the lower part wich is about 7 cm high - And after that it says:

I had the same problem as ggadsfa, but then i went to the start menu and uninstalled the game, but found out the steam version was still installed, clicked on single player link in steam, and it loaded just fine.

I uninstalled the game too (- Just did it), and it seems to work pretty good now - except of the looping sounds, but it's ok :P Already reached chapter seven, but when i use a sword like earthfire sword or lightning daggers, then the "Dynamic light" (Think its called that - you know the orange colors on the sword) Keep marking my screen and everytime I switch to a "normal" sword it disapears. Pretty annoying, because I can't use any good swords then

I was unable to get the game to load in single player also, but it started to play the cinematics with a white screen, then when the game was to start at the menu screen, the message "cannot find the materials/console/background01.vtf" came up. I clicked OK and the game closed out. I took it upon myself to searh my computer for the background01.vtf file and found nothing. I did some research and found out that the link did not exist in the program files list at all. There was a dead end at the materials folder and the console folder was missing, along with anything it should have contained. I created a console folder and renamed a jpg wallpaper file to the background01.vtf file that was missing and I put it into the console folder. My game is working fine now. Cinematics are running fine, the menu screen appears and the game works as if it should have. I don't know what other files might be missing from this console folder, but they should be added or considered to be added for the next patch.

In addition to the information I just gave. I did install from a DVD, the entire game at one time. Steam then added updates to both versions, or reinstalled, the first time I tried to run the program. I had to wait for over an hour for the steam program to download whatever it was downloading. The steam program does not tell you what it is up to, which is a bit concerning itself. I tried running the multiplayer after the singleplayer failed. The multiplayer worked and the menu screen came up to play the game fine. I tried to switch to the single player game from the multiplayer screen, no dice. That is when I decided it was time to find the missing file that the game was looking for when it stopped working. Also, I had already installed both patches before attempting to play the game at all. I am used to updates needing to be run, so I looked for them and installed them first.

i got steam from the game.. but i cant make an accound on it..?!

Im Getting the same "Cannot find background image 'Materials/Console/Background01.vtf' error. The Cinematics are white then when you skip past them i get the error and the game quits.

I Searched my Pc and cannot find a materials folder for Dark Messiah.

Anyone know what i can do coz i wanna get playing.

Ah Brilliant,
I found the folder and did as philschonhoff said and added console/backround01.vtf.

But the cinematics stayed white and after it loaded the menu screen background i got the error "unable to load surface prop file 'scripts/collision_table.txt'.

I found the folder it should have been it and low and behold it wasnt there.

Any idea Whats going on Arkane or anyone?!
