Hi all,

It seems the bug where Bink Video Files can't be read anymore may come from a problem between the DVD Single Player Version of DM & the Steam Version.

If any of you have experienced the problem with Video/Cinematic, please let us know the following things to help you fix the bug:


1. Did you first installed Single Player from the Dvd Version ?
2. Did you then at some point, install the Multiplayer version ?
3. Did you then notice if the Single Player was being downloaded by Steam, while it shouldn't since you had installed it from the DVD Before
4. Did you try playing Single Player from Steam while you had installed it from the DVD ?

This may seem a bit confusing, but it might be very important.

3 im not sure what you mean by that... but on steam the singleplayer seem to download something?
4 no , because its downloading

when the download is complete on steam , i will try that out. maybe it will be fixed.

im also having problems with magic weapons , if i use them i get squires over my screens (not sure if its spelled corectly , but you know... squires : [])
and if i jump in the water i get a white screen...

I still get the "White square thingy of death" and have the same problem as the guy above me when I can play, usually it just locks up though. I cant get by the first non tutorial chapter without it locking up and in multiplayer the avatars dont show up at all.

1. For those of you having graphical glitches with Magic Weapons: what is your Video Card?

2. Kilzoth: How did you manage to launch Single Player via Steam while you had it installed from the DVD? (Step by Step procedure please)

3. Seadreags: So to sum it up: you just put the DVD in your drive, installed SP and launched it right? When does the Video problem happens?

I was a little confused that steam took so long to download what I thought was an update.

When steam finished the download, it put his own shortcut icon on my desktop (so I had the dvd icon and steam icon)

A funny bug is that when I requested the download from steam, I choose french (the dvd was installed in english language)... When I play DM after that, the ingame was in english when the text on loading page and sound in cinematic was in french...

I uninstall and reinstalled everything after that, not that I had cinematic bug but because of your now famous directx bug.

I encounter this directx bug and are not able to go over the loading wait in the corridor just after killing the big cyclop in the 2nd level.

Is there a competition between GoThic 3 and DM to release the must bugged game of the year?

So to be sure to understand you know have both the Cinematic bug (where cinematic are all black) and crash on loading?

Did you try setting Texture to Low to see if it helps getting through the loading zone?

My big issue, other than having to set everything on low, are random crashes and the one thing I haven't been able to get around is that my opening cinematic wont play , it gets to the part where horned lords will bow their heads to one not yet born with the darkest and darkest repeatis with an audio loop and the video just stays at that point. if i dont hit escape the video will eventually go to a black screen and start loading the main menu. Ive managed to get through the game even though i have crashes where i have to shut off the power to my pc, and if i could only play the game through on my pc's full capability this would be one of my fav games.

None of these apply, mine was a complete STEAM download and I don't have a CD or DVD

okey dokey marco well im also having the checkerboard patter accross my screen with magic weapons and i notice it gets worse with the more magic stuff u have... like if u have ur lightning shield equiped and your firey sword

Im using an nvidia geforce FX 5500

Also i tried doing that -dxlevel 90c in my properties-target and it didnt do anything at all my movies still dont show up and im pretty sure this also has to do with the checkerboard accross my screen
also i checked the console after equiping some of my magic weapons and here are my errors

I also notice when im looking at my multiplayer properties it shows i have direct X 9 but when im looking at my single player properties it shows i have direct X 8

and again the -dxlevel 90c dosnt do anything at all in the single player properties-target

PS: guys i fixed my WHITE WATER OF DEATH by fiddling with the shadows i think... cuase i had the same problemmm

AHH and also people if your gonna copy and paste ur console errors dont use word it takes up to much computer resources

use notepad its a much simpler program that dosnt take as many comp resources

When the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic Properties window pops up, look for the Target box, it should read "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Dark Messiah of Might and Magic\mm.exe". Move the blinking cursor to the end of the path so it is after the quotation mark, press the Spacebar once and then type in: -dxlevel 90c. It should now look like this "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Dark Messiah of Might and Magic\mm.exe" -dxlevel 90c. Click on Apply and then click OK.
