Whenever I attempt to launch the game (steam version) I get an hourglass followed by a message that says:

mm.exe has encountered a problem and must close.....

and then gives me a chance to send an error report.

Event log says this:

System specs:
kingston hyperx(2x512) ddr2
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
Radeon x800gto 256mb
12.5 gigabytes of free space

Its not a memory problem as no other applications or even log show symptoms, and I have run multiple tests with memtest86

Things I have tried:

- Completely removing steam, registry keys for steam and the game from my system, and reinstalling it all.

- Removing my pagefile and re-creating it, pagefile is currently set at 4096-8065

- Video drivers were updated to the latest version, and after that didn't work I installed the latest omega drivers which had no effect on the problem.

- Verified and defragmented game files via steam.

- System has been defragmented using a third party defragmentation tool (defraggler).

- Tried launching the game with the command line parameters "-dxlevel 70, -nosound, -applaunch, -mat_forcehardwaresync 0"

- Tried disabling advanced theme support by right clicking both steam and the game exe's under the compatibility tab.

- Launching the game in steam offline mode.

Problem fixed by a complete format.

Indeed. Techie-elite was so kind to post it here (otherwise it would seem unsolved). But the tech support assistance and attention happened on BlindNero Forums.
