I suppose it is attempting to start the calibration screen, and then crashes.
Please try:
Click Start > Run... type in:
regedit
click OK.
Navigate to the key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve\Source\mm]
and highlight it.
Delete the key (press "Del" key on your keyboard).

Reboot the PC. Try the game again.

By the way, you DID remove the Steam-created shortcut for singleplayer, right? You're only using the Ubisoft-created shortcut ok?

yes i deleted the steam created shortcut

and i just noticed that my ati control center was forcing my screen bigger. that might be the problem???

Yes of course there you have a problem. What is happening?
What monitor (brand/type) do you have?

its a tv. an akai. thats the problem there probably, i didnt think of it.
