How do I validate through Steam? My version the the DVD one just for clarification

wasn't this one of the few bugs that were fixed with a patch
i think i can remember seeing a note about it in a changelog...
so downloading and installing the patches could help if you didn't already do this..

It is not included as a fix in the changelog.... at least not in mine

To validate through Steam you would need to set the game up for running through Steam. If you are not already do this by running this file in the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic root folder "steam_setup.exe". It will take some time for it to set up just so you know.

Other than that you could try to make your own vtf file with Photoshop but I am not sure it will work.

Missing image is just a collateral effect of the binkw32.dll error. Read the sticky DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions, [POST 4].
You probably mixed Steam and DVD version. If the fix didn't immediately help, see [POST 3] for the diff un/installation paths.

BTW: seeing your dxdiag, you need to follow all instructions in [POST 2] to prepare your system first.
