Hello everyone,

I've had amazing troubles with this game since I bought it last December. Originally, it wouldn't even run on my computer, I eventually coaxed it to the main menu, but I could never get further than that. I ended up giving up and playing it on my brother's computer, but I'd like to be able to play it on mine.

Basically what happens is it goes through fine until the main menu, then I try to start a new game. The little menu for picking difficulty comes up fine, but no matter how many or how few times I click "ok" it never goes anywhere. I've tried every single resolution, patched it more times than I want to think about, uninstalled, reinstalled. I've even tried playing it off my brother's computer's hard drive via the LAN. Even that wouldn't work.

So I'm asking for help here, any ideas?

I'm using the Single Play Ubisoft Version, bought from EB 8 months ago.

Hello Hoppipolla.

Your PC is in bad shape, and not prepared at all to run this game.
You must do the following in the same order:

1. Your C:\ drive is almost full! Clear up extra 6 GB free space on your C:\ drive by deleting files.

2. Enlarge and fix your paging file to 4096MB

3. Update your ATI drivers.

4. Update your Realtek AC 97 drivers

5. Disable hardware acceleration on your soundchip

6. Update your nForce chipset drivers.

I found it eventually. If you're trying to make it easy for people to fix their problems, you might want to say "page file" in your instructions so they can use ctrl+F to find what they're actually looking for.

So I did all that, and it finally started working. Played through the prologue fine, yay hacking enemies, combat system wheeee etc. It's nearly midnight by the time I'm doing this, so I save and set defrag to run over night. Come back this morning for a quick half an hour of play before I do some homework, and it's full of errors =/.

It gets to about 3/4 of the way to loading my saved game, and it gets an error that I can't see, and can't alt-tab either so I'm not sure which error it is. I'm pretty sure it's something like "couldn't read 0x28-----" or something? I used to get it playing on my brother's computer but it was usually only before a loading sequence.

I installed both the patches, so I don't know if it's been fixed.

EDIT The error came up and I got to look at it this time. mm.exe - Application error:
The instruction at "0x2408b179" referenced memory at "0x20421ea8". The memory could not be "read".

Ok, so I played it on and off today, and I'm up to chapter 3 or 4. So far it seems like it doesn't like loading my saved games. It'll load all the autosaves fine, but one that I've done and it crashes. Still getting a few errors, mostly during loading bits.

I followed all the instructions you gave, I wish I'd thought of asking here when I first got the game ><, could it just be a hardware problem?
