Sorry in advance if this is posted somewhere else. I am having really bad performace issues with the game.

System Specs:
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB DDR 400 Ram
BFG Tech 8800GT (675/1680)
Soundblaster Xi-Fi Xtreme Gamer

I get about 20-25fps with this game on Max setting (no AA or AF) @ 1680x1050. At some points it dips into the 10's. I would think that my system would have no problem maxing this game out? My friend has a single core intel 3.0 ghz and a 7900gs and he maxes it out at 1280x1024 with over 30 fps. Therefore mine should be able to do it no problem i would think.

Hello AgentJ. Do not use 1680x1050 as it is a 16:10 aspect ratio (not supported by the game). Use a 16:9 instead.

Thanks for the quick reply, I have changed my resolution to a 4:3 resolution (16:9 not available?) and the game runs much better. It runs now at around 50fps. Which I am very happy for but, It still drops down into the 10's often... Shouldn't my system be able to max this out no problem with a lot of fps?

All of my drivers are up to date.
Video = 169.21 whql
Audio = 5.12.0001.1187
Game Version = 1.02
Etc.

Is there anyway I could get rid of the poor fps at times?

Yes certainly on your system it should be better than that.

To save me a lot of questions, could you post what it asks (1, 2, 3, 4) in [POST 19] of the DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions thread?

Ok here is the information you asked for:

1) I have the singleplayer ubisoft version from a DVD (patched to 1.02)

2) I have had my computer for about a year now and just recently updated the gfx card to an 8800gt (which runs everything else almost flawlessly) so i decided to install Dark Messiah and play and thats when i found out i had the fps problem. I was using 16:10, which I found out was not supported. My fps went up dramatically when I changed to a supported 4:3 res. But my fps still drops into the low 10's every once in a while. So now i am posting the information requested.

What is odd, is that you don't have drivers installed for your nForce Memory Controller. Shouldn't there be?

The settings you posted show you use the unsupported 16:10 aspect ratio. Post your most recent mm key export please.

Also, have you tried the AMD dual core hotfix? See DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions[POST 6] item =36=.

Nforce Memory Controller? I have no Idea what that is or if I should have it.

Also I have the AMD Dual Core optimizer and the latest drivers for my X2.

Plus that is weird that the reg key is not the right one... it should be... oh well I will send it again.

Also one quick question for you.. i have never updated my motherboard drivers on this computer. I have been afraid too. i think that I have the correct version downloaded and am willing to install it to see if that helps. But I am wondering if I can revert back to the previous version if it goes bad? Also will that fix the nforce memory controller, if I install a new version?

Well the nForce drivers are for the nForce chipset. So they won't reach the motherboard at BIOS level, don't worry. They work in Windown level and should always be installed after installing Windows. Also: you can only install the correct drivers, a wrong one will be refused as it won't recognize the target chipset.
nForce chipset drivers you must install.

In your second post you said you "changed resolution to a 4:3 resolution (16:9 not available?) and the game runs much better." But, what you have in your settings (posted 3 times now): 00000500 x 000003c0 = 1280x960, is a 16:10 resolution according to the game's own options menu. It does not show you changed to 4:3.

Your monitor is 1680 x 1050. (also 16:10). If 16:9 is not available in your game's options menu it's probably because it isn't supported by your monitor. In that case 4:3 is best.

Also, try with V-Sync enabled (in game's options menu).

I updated the drivers for the nforce chipset and that worked... thanks! But it did not imporve the fps. Also you asked me to try enabling v-sync, which I did and I lost even more fps. Also I must be confused b/c in my settings in the game it says 1280x960 res and then below that it says aspect ratio = 4:3, so what is the problem with the 16:10?

Oooops sorry, my mistake. You're right: it is a 4:3 in the game's options dropdownbox. Same as in DARK MESSIAH Installation and Troubleshooting Instructions [POST 15] where all the game's options are listed. I forgot to check... my apologies.

BUT in my own notes i had 1280 x 960 listed as a 16:10 (don't know where i got that from). I don't have a widescreen panel, i still only use 4:3 CRT's. 1600x1200, 1280 x 1024, 1024 x 768 are the common 4:3 i am used to.
On your screen, could you try changing to 1280x1024?
