Does anyone know what kind of DRM the new prince of persia will use?
Im a huge prince of persia fan and have copy of every prince of persia PC-game on the shelf since "The shadow & the flame". However I wont buy the new prince of persia if it comes with anykind of online or limited activations. I occasionally replay the old prince of persia titles and a online/limited activation could mean that I wont be able to do that with the new game 5 or 10 years from now. |

The harsh truth is that Ubisoft couldn't care less if you don't buy the game because of the DRM. It just means they'll invest even less in PC conversions in the future. This is already happening and it's going to get worse. Yves Guillemot already said it:
(source: http://www.tomsgames.com/us/2008/08/13/ubisoft_yvesguillemot/) Simple as that. Ubisoft still doesn't understand the problems with DRM, and the PC gamer will be the victim of that. It's a vicious circle with Ubisoft putting less and less effort in PC conversions and less people buying them as a result of that. |

Well if they made proper PC versions, gamers would be arsed to buy it.
Plus they think too much about profit and aren't doing much polished quality tbh You shouldn't have problems with the drm anyway. If you ever do, remember, as a customer you have the right to complain and sue until you are satisfied ♥ What is Silent Hill ♥ | ^_^ | † PoP pr0n † | !Detailed Survey for next PoP.Vote! Well I do worry about the DRM. I still play Prince of persia: "The shadow & the flame" made in 1993 by Broderbund Software. The company no longer exist. If this game had online activation, I would not be able to play it or complain to customersupport for my game not working. |

I am not sure exactly what DRM (if any) is being used for Prince of Persia. I am sure Razz should be able to enlighten us but I will see what I can find out myself.

No matter how much the increase the protection on games...they will still be easily pirated. there are plenty of ways to do it, and by increasing protection..they only increase the challenge.
*** Paragraph Removed - We'd rather you didn't post the different methods of piracy - Thanks, Bitebug2003 and before you try to tag me as a pirate, i do not download, upload, or copy products. I follow the law, but have a knowledge on the subject because it interests me. I'm not saying that they should just give up on Data rights management, im just saying that its futile. Its similar to safety put on motorbikes (such as chains, disk locks, steering lock), it acts as a deterant but nothing more - if people want to get the product for free - they will get it. Farcry 2, specifically for the PC The PC gaming community is not against thing that prohibit piracy, such a thing already exists for a long time and it's called "the law", no a good part of the gaming is against more and more retarded and still completely useless copy protection mechanisms. I accepted code wheel and manual based protection, I accepted safedisk & Co requiring to have the CD always in the drive, but on-line activation is where I draw the line, I passed on all recent EA games and Farcry 2 because of it, and if it cause Ubisoft invest less money in PC games... well so be it. The more time pass the more I start thinking having the "big names" abandoning PC gaming wouldn't probably be such a bad thing after all. Well but to go back to this thread original subject, I would also be very interested to know whenever or not the new PoP is going to use online activation. |

So close to the release, what's the news on this subject?
Any limited activations or an internet activation necessary? |

I guess not answering is a good way to temporarily avoid the community backlash they'd get otherwise. |

Still waiting for the answer in regards to the PC-version.

The PC version got delayed, we have to wait another week. It's not just the DRM, I haven't read any confirmation that the extra skins are also available for the PC version. |

I just got an email from gamestop that says that PC version won't be getting the SoT skin
You think you took me captive, in fact you are my savior |

Actually the PC version has always been later than the console releases. Same goes for end war and practically ever ubi game since farcry 2.
Why? Ubisoft and its paranoia of the immense hordes of pirates which don't exist. Its true, they released a statement regarding end war and how its being delayed due to piracy fears they will now delay PC versions and push console versions. Ubisoft pulling its usual WAAHHH PC PIRACY and ignoring console piracy. I've been told that PoP was on the net on sunday for the 360 version. I'm not endorsing piracy here don't get me wrong, but what exactly are ubisoft up to shoving idiot DRM on the PC AND delaying it AND cutting the DLC/bonuses. The DRM is meant to stop piracy and stop it being leaked, just shows you how much faith they have in it and how much they really don't care about the PC market/consumer. Or then again maybe it isn't about piracy and about 2nd hand sales. I don't doubt PoP PC version will ship with limited activations just like farcry2, but its damn cowardly for them to withdraw this information so close to launch, its like a consumer trap. Run in, buy game, get sprung by DRM. On the steam forums people are asking the same question if it is going to be packing DRM and the the answer is that "the store page should be carrying the warning" but for confirmation email valve support. Take that how you wish. |

Heh the irony is that there was an early pirated FC2 on the net...for the xbox360.
Eat it Ubi. If people want to pirate the game they will, no matter when it comes out, I don't see their "logic" here. Ubi used to be one of my fave game comps at one time, but now they just make me rage at times. ♥ What is Silent Hill ♥ | ^_^ | † PoP pr0n † | !Detailed Survey for next PoP.Vote! You`re right when you say that when people want to pirate the game they will but DRM is there to make it as difficult as possible for pirates to make copies of our games. A lot of people complain that DRM is what forces people to pirate games but as PoP PC has no DRM we`ll see how truthful people actually are. Not very, I imagine.
Console piracy is something else entirely and I`m sure we`ll see more steps in future to try to combat that. |
