Zero Punctuation rocks, but I think you can't really compare inFAMOUS and Prototype since the first wants to be a game ith a comic book feel and the latter wants to unleash pure mayhem...

@John: I'm not sure. I don't think it was in their weekly ad though you might want to check it online. I'm guessing it's a clearance sale. Sony recently made it greatest hits price of $30 and Target even had the sticker on the display case window (Ratchet, GT, MGS, and DMC4) which makes it even more ironic. Yet their tag showed $14.98 Big Grin Scanned into the computer as $30 but he overrode it.

@Rona: Nice, I'm still maxing out my powers, didn't play today though. Might turn it on later Shady Shards can be a pain, just be systematic about it and watch out for those ones out in the ocean. I'm getting a Uncharted twitch too. Might try the MP beta if I have time. I hope they lower Quest For Booty again. I'd pick it up this time around. Though maybe I'll wait until they release the next one, I'm sure it will have good promotional value then. October? You mean Rocktober! Metal

@Zerban: No Prototype here. Definitely prefer flying up buildings to climbing. Wish there was a flying and climbing power up in Infamous Frown

I had a short chance to play Prototype yesterday as well as watch. It was basically what I expected, faults and all. Sure Alex pwns everyone, but the thing is that in power fantasy games with so much cruelty potential, the difficulty HAS to ratchet up to Nintendo Hard just to stop the game being a cakewalk.

The section I watched had my friend attempting to take down Elizabeth Green, but lacking any other means of whittling down her ridiculous health bar, he was forced to run up a building, jump off, kick her in the face for 1 bar of damage, lather, rinse, repeat. Even when the military popped in, it devolved into 'kung-fu flip onto tank, QTE to steal, fire main gun, get blown up, lather, rinse, repeat'. There was also the fact that Green kept blasting Alex with so many unblockable/dodgeable moves that he spent half the time trying to find a quiet corner to eat someone in.

Adding to this, Prototype has a basic button-smashing combat that is less about tactics and more about using the most overpowered weapon you have (Blade or Whipfist). However, the game bogs you down with a ridiculous array of Awesome but Impractical moves that further lend itself to the belief that this is not a game to play for a challenge, but to just blow off steam - not that I have any problem with that whatsoever. I'm regularly a VERY cruel gamer Big Grin

inFamous set out from day 1 to be about a guy who starts off not-very-superhuman at all, but grows to about level with the average comic book superhero. I mean, what does Cole have at the start? Shoots lighting like a infinite-ammo pistol and can blast people like a low-damage shotgun. The only thing keeping him alive are his bullet-absorbing powers and his urban exploration experience.

The reason I find inFamous so enjoyable because it's a challenging third-person shooter with all the locomotion abilities of Batman and a short, sweet but surprisingly twisting story. I know the whole 'supersoldier experiment' plot is silly and tired (why make a supersoldier when they're liable to turn on their creators and making bombs is so much easier?). Prototype takes this a step further by having it as a highly infection virus which makes anyone infected with it a superhuman. At least in inFamous the Ray Sphere was actually meant for private use by a shadowy cult, but Kessler's Xanatos Gambit (read; ridiculously complex plan) put it on the market for everyone else to try and steal - plus it's so destructive that anyone who willingly uses it is a real... bad person Shady

Overall: I prefer inFamous so far, but I'll reserve final judgement for when my friend lends me Prototype and I give him inFamous.

PS: In my current THIRD run of inFamous, Cole is apparently addicted to Blast Shards in a way that makes a heroin addict a 'take it or leave it' guy. In the middle of the blacked-out Warren surrounded by Dustmen with little electricity to regenerate with? SHARDSHARDSHARDSHARD!

While I heard about this across the board, you make is sound so natural to do Veryhappy
I'm sure there was a way to defeat the boss character instead of whittling away at her health.

The story was definitely superb in Infamous. I'm trying to level up and it's grueling on hard. I'm once again 2 shards short so I'll have to run around looking for them. I don't know why, I have the Trophy already, but it still bugs me.

@Rona: Are you talking about Ken? Mean Happy He obviously cared to make PS3 games region free Smile

I just finished that part this morning. Took me 45 minutes to figure out a decent system to defeat Elizabeth Green: Blob Queen. Prototype, while very fun in its destruction, is just like GTA: the aspect of Freedom and Choice is an illusion. If there is a better way than "whittling away at her health" I couldn't find it. Musclemass throws do no damage. Blade/whipfist is too close combat, she just kicks your ***. I found the air graveyard devastator effective, a successful hit takes down a third of those miserable health bars each. I also used the Hammer elbow slam from high up which also takes down numerous bars at once, also using liberal Hunter dirtnaps and consumes to get health back up.

But frankly, I was disappointed with the fight. It wasn't a clever or well-choreographed battle, it was just an exercise in patience.

I haven't beaten Prototype yet, but so far all its potential is being chiseled away by poorly thought-out missions. I haven't found an appreciation for any sort of strategy in this game; you either beat the crap out things with tanks, beat the crap out of things in helicopters, or beat the crap out of things with powers. All the stealth potential goes out the window once the viral detectors and super soldiers are roaming the streets. The ante gets upped with roadblocks, not strategy. Plus I got the achievement for unraveling the secrets of Alex's past completely randomly; ran into some random fleeing intrigue suspect who blurted out the whole abbreviated thing. Kind of takes the steam out of the Web of Intrigue concept.

Oh man, I forgot how close I was to the end of Infamous... Need some EXP for megawatt Shady To bad main missions aren't 750 instead of 500 EXP, would have made things easier Indifferent

Yeah, that was an awesome fight. It seemed a lot easier on the second run though, even on the harder difficulties. The only annoying bit is when the hover-grenade bots spawn, but even they aren't too bad Razz

@Rona/James: Well, I finally got my megawatt upgrade for Evil to the Core Trophy. Really want to upgrade the others though before heading into the final fight even though I don't really need to. Still though, makes me feel all powerful Twisted

Invisible Shotgunners and Hover Bots annoyed me to no end. Though I like shockwaving the bots when I was taking out the AA guns to get high fall EXP. Mean Happy

Last battle didn't seem that hard. The pattern was fairly easy once you figure out the pattern. Hope he changes it up in Hard.

@Cathal: Oh, never even logged in once. Downloaded it too. A shame they can't let us continue playing it until it launches.
