I agree on all points save that last one -- so far all TRU has done is tout its immersion, which is fine, up to a point. I'm all for increasing immersion, but if I wind up with a half-finished game that is jerky and difficult to play but glistens perfectly if gotten wet, I'll be upset. Back on topic, I think the developers have carte blanche to bend the rules of physics in the name of delivering a good experience. I mean, I would have set down the controller during the previous trilogy if I was upset by wall running. What I can't abide is when it gets broken over their knees, like with the combat scenes. I don't mind Kratos defying gravity, he's a demigod, he can do that. The Prince is theoretically human, even if he is a top-of-the-line specimen in terms of atheltic potential. I draw the line at being able to spin around in the air, neither ascending nor descending. This Developer Diary was telling as soon as the words 'Advent Children' left the speaker's mouth. I've never understood the sort of jerky, cobra-like way in which anime fights happen. It seems wrong, not dramatic. I don't mind fast fights, it's the leaping forty feet into the air to deliver a monologue that upsets me. All of this reeks of a marketing department's meddling. It seems like someone did a survey of what the kids really like these days and did their best to fill the game with that while still keeping the original theme (and god bless them for that last part -- some games end the sentence at 'that' -- I'm looking at you, Phantasy Star). I am well and truly sick to death of being overlooked as a gaming demographic because I'm not 14. When is it going to punch through everyone's head that WOW is making money hand over fist because of pressure, not quality? If you make YOUR game cool enough, people will flock to it and fill your pockets with cash. Sorry, got on a bit of a rant there. I remain a devotee of the Tao Te Yahtzee Croshaw. I will continue to assume this game is not good enough until it can prove otherwise. |

Hi there,
First of all, I bow to you for adding the Prince a little situation comedy concerning the dialogues I have seen, this is very amusing, but also I would like to give the developers some points to reconsider. 1. Graphics: I have to admit that the graphics are innovative and technically well done. But for me, PoP is not a japanese anime. I have always admired the Prince for the exquisite graphic realism, considering the style of the graphics as well as the movements. 2. The Prince's new skills: I acknowledge that developers have to improve gameplay, expand the player's possibilities to move the protagonist. But I think this time it is so way out of line...I mean look at the prince. He can run along walls from every (physically im-) possible situation, he can even run along ceilings with unlimited range, he can climb along every wall, and by using the glowing spots he can jump so far it looks like flying. I'm not sure if you are trying to make the prince a hybrid of Spiderman and Superman. I mean, if the prince can fly over anything, climb every wall and ceiling - do we really need them at all? Wouldn't it be almost the same just to make a plain surface? Just like his superhero powers were not enough, he withal has a magician as his sidekick. For me it seems as if the developers have completely lost track of the spirit of the PoP series. I would enjoy the new release to be closer to the previous episodes. If released in current status, I have no interest in this game. |

For me it seems more like that you don't kow what the spirit of pop is. PoP is a fantasygame. It's a game which tells tales like "arabian nights" (i know, it's persian. But the setting is the same). PoP was NEVER a realistic game. ----- New Trailer from the PAX http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169695 |

Ok, so the original POP wasn't realistic? It wasn't 100% realistic but it was at least belieavable, and it created a believable envionremenet with a belieavable story/gameplay features... POP4 isn't nor realistic nor belieavable (we get it), and the developers can do what they want just because they can and the franchise is in their hands. If they want to create a japanese/anime based game, with a story that smells like dejá-vu and probably the most anoying sidekick ever in a game (she is already anoying in the videos, I don't wanna know how it will develop in the game). If they want to do that then let them do it. If they think that this is the right thing then let them do it, if a lot of fans like it then let them like and buy it. But there are a lot more that don't like and even a lot more that don't give a **** about it. Is this a POP game? HELL NO! Be cool people |

I don't think Elika is annoying. The things you're talking about are subjective.
But it is a fact that the PoP games were fantasy games since the first game. So: SoT - PoP Game WW - No PoP Game T2T - partitially pop game PoP 2008 - PoP Game You want a game like WW. But Warrior Within wasn't a real PoP. I don't say it was bad. I like WW, but it was no PoP game. You can't say it is no pop game because the moves are unbelievable. Or because you think the graphics don't fit. A PoP game is a game with an "arabian nights" story. The other thhings are just things which are based on the story. So they used a morefantasy like graphic style in the pop because it fits to the story. This style would also fit to SoT and T2T. But it wouldn't fit to WW. |

I agree with Keksus that WW wasn't very "PoP" and the new one seems like a PoP game to me. I think some people are dissappointed that this game didn't turn out like the one they imagined in their head the past couple years, so, now they go, "oh this isn't a PoP game" to help rationalize their displeasure with the new approach. Truth be told we really have to play through it to know how it will stack up.
Anyway, the new trailer was okay, but I was hoping for more of a gameplay montage type thing, but the diary gave us that so that's okay. I definately want that special edition if that's true. I'll keep an eye on that. |

You can't say this PoP game isn't very PoP and that PoP game is very PoP. there are no rules a PoP game must follow to be a PoP game except that the main character is or becomes the Prince of Persia. it doesn't need persian enviremonts or persian music for it. the game makes PoP, not the other way around. it could just as well be a point-and-click adventure with cartoon graphics or realtime-strategy game and still remain a prince of persia game. there is no criteria.

Man, you don't make a clue of what you're talking about do you?! A point-and-click game for Prince of Persia? LOL You should listen to yourself, that's crazy what you're saying.... No Persian enviorenemet? No Persian Music? Man, than why do we need the Persia word in the title? Just because the prince is going to become The Prince of Persia in the end? loooll Man... You should think twice before posting things like those. |

the first prince of persia wasn't very persian to begin with. a man with blonde hair in a white robe fighting his way through dungeons filled with traps a la Indiana Jones. sounds more like a tomb then a medieval persian dungeon to me. and the game rarely had any music, let alone persian music. but it was the revolutionary gameplay that made it such an awesome game.

If ww is not a POP game i don't want POP4 to be a POP game because ww is the best game I ever played

Yes and after this game they will make a first person shooter Prince of Persia game. About the criteria...the SoT trilogy set the standards and the criteria for all the PoP games out there. And about the "you will become the prince" that is stupid! I've said it before, and I don't know what was in the heads of the guys from Ubi when they came up with this story and idea! It is valid only if there is something we don't know and he is a lost son of the king or something. As I said before:You do not become a prince through your deeds! You can became a knight,a noble man even a king through your deeds. But you cannot become a prince if you do not share the same blood as the king! |
|||
|
I don't really think it matters what the story is about. I mean, the SoT storyline could have been completely different but yet it would still be a PoP game. You can't really classify them as "PoP" or "not PoP" becuase no matter what the game is still called "Prince of Persia". Yeah they could make it a first-person shooter and it would still be a PoP game. All I'm saying is, they're all PoP games, no matter how different the gameplay is or how far off from the storyline you think it is.

A POP FPS game is already in production, it's calle Mirror's Edge. LOL.

You know...is not such a bad idea about a FPS PoP....
Think about Dark Messiah and Mirror's Edge combined with the PoP flavor... |

I don't even care how they make it, I just like running on walls.

I've been scouring the web for the full name of this elusive "Patrick" that did the artwork on the "speed art" videos for the new Prince of Persia game. As an artist myself, I really dig his style (and yes, it does remind me of the MGS concept art) and was hoping to find a personal website portfolio/Deviant Art page/MySpace profile...ANYTHING where I could hopefully look at other examples of his artwork. I just don't know what his last name is to search. Help please.
I apologize in advance if this has already been posted somewhere in these forums, but I could not find it. Thanks |

I'm surprised I haven't tried hunting Patrick down... >_> I already watch a couple people who have worked on Ubisoft games on Deviantart...

does anybody recognize the art program he's using for those speed art demo's?

Judging from the little pop-up you see momentarily when Patrick's switching brushes, I'd guess Photoshop. Somebody on the forums managed to make a Photoshop brush tool set to imitate the brushes to draw Prince of Persia-ish also.
