SOme fun thread to revive the forum alittle from vidya related debattes.

quote:
1) Persians invented the overcoats and were stylish dressers

quote:
2)The Persian kings wished to be remembered as gardeners

quote:
3)paradise is coming from the Persian word ''Paradisia'' which was then turned into a Greek word

quote:
4) Demon is comming from the ''Daeva'', natural gods which were negative beings in Zoroastra's view, but ironically was then turned into positive beings later on the Avesta.

quote:
5.)Magic is coming from the Persian tribe/Priests called Magi. So any surreal ''Magical theme'' like the last level of ''World of Illusion'' is a Persian theme.

quote:

6.)Kyros was the first politician in ancient history who defined the first human rights on a stone cylinder. And that from a time with a monarchic comprehension.
quote:
7.)Unlike the Greek gave Persians men and women same rights.

quote:
8.) They never had any slaves till the Sassanidian Empire

quote:
9.) They were cleaner and more demure than the Greeks

quote:
10) They had a Garden system which we see in modern times.
quote:

11) Zarathustra was the first philosoph in world history and defined dialectic, causality and self-reliance. Most of his works influenced Platon and other Greek and Roman philosophes.
He was also the first one who relativated religion. Ironically his teachings were turned into a religion.

quote:
12) It is known that Platon had a copy of the Gatha.

quote:

13) Persians were remarkable archers.

I got also some other fun facts, but I give the others a chance.

They did defeat them. The Thermopyles were just a tight bay and the army couldn't go through with all their men. But sooner or later they could break through. Mostly because one of Spartans deserted and offered Xerxes a different path where they could smash the Spartans.

I think there is a documentary out there which explains it on a historically correct scenario. Don't take that hollywood crap seriously.

Although I agree hollywood crap just shows stuff which really didnt happen and tends to take sides with the "goodies"... The Persians really suffered an humilliating loss in that battle, even when there were not only 300 spartans [they got assistance from other Greeks], still, they kicked their *** and under a serious numeric disadvantage thats the truth Razz

There were 300 Spartans, but there were other Greeks helping them, still they were at a HUGE disadvantage against the Persians, and they did hold up very well. And for the record, the Persians didn't win this war, the Greek did.

We are talking about the Thermophyles, and the Persians did win there, despite the loss.

I personally think the whole 300 glory is just idealized through European history and motivating young men to become soldiers. It has more to do with the geographical advantage the Spartans had than their battle skills. On open fields they were kicked ***,and that didn't help who go the better sk1llz :P

Wait...I know more than you about ancient Persia oO?

27. Artemisia, the loyal female general of Xerxes, survived the battle in salamis. Her bravery caused Xerxes to say: '' My men have turned into women and my women into men''. Though of course, it's from a Greek source, so it's not really relieable.

28. Alexander's name means on Persian ''Eskandar''. But a fellow Persian neighbour told me it means exactly ''Alexander the ***hole''. Now start rethinking everything you know about that Macedonian douchebag.

Well, the Greeks and Egypts(The Persians too?) invented the first ways of math, like Geometry, but from what I read did that Khwarizmi determined the whole algebra system we know today... I could go to wiki to look after that.

That was the time, dude, where the 'rabs still had controll over the whole Orient.Of course Arabian was only accapted there.

Bagdad I think was still part of Persia, but not really sure about taht.I know only that Iraq and Iran had a good relationship back in the Medival comming from Ancient time where the Persians ruled over Babylon and made it into one of their metropoles.

Even some Syrian scolars in ancient times wrote their works in Greek and Latin.

Baghdad was not part of Persia at the time of Al-Khawarizmi, it's more like the other way around. And to put thousands of years in a one- sentence summary; Arabs and Persians never had a good relationship.

Before the last century there were no "Iraqis" or "Lebanese" or "Saudi Arabia"..there was just Arabs and Arabs in general had a not so friendly relationship with Persians before Islam AND after Islam.

And in the context of Arabs and Persians, Iraqi's DO represent the Arabs since they are the ones who come face to face with Persia geographically.
