Yes, it is a person's own choice to smoke or not,but think of other people too,...especially in a family environment; if only one person in a household smoke,it's like the entire household smokes too.

I'm not really sure a full public ban was in order. If somebody is smoking near you (and most smokers I know would be quite considerate about this) just go and tell them or something. As long as it's not a stupid situation, where you're just asking them because they're smoking.

In the UK the smoking ban doesn't apply to open spaces, just smoking outside in the town centre, that's fine. And rightfully so.
It's really stupid when people ask others to stop smoking, when it's a situation when it would be easier for them to move away.
Sure it's your right to have smoke free air to breathe, it's just twenty metres in the opposite direction

The good thing about the ban is that it has decreased the amount of smokers, in the UK at least.

If I can't walk through a smoking clan on the side of the road without breathing in a bit of smoke I really don't care all that much, I suck it up. Who cares it only takes like two seconds to walk through. Besides usually you can find a way around people.

Actually, studies proved that when non smokers inhale the cigarettes smoke, they get affected by it more than smokers do

Still, like James said, it doesn't make sense to ban smoking in open places, the smoke will spread in the space in seconds and no one will inhale it And keep in mind that whatever that is restricted, is most desired

well, maybe they didn't kept very accurate medical records in the 18-th century, maybe, but I think it's not the nicotine who causes cancer, it's the chemicals they put next to it in the cigarettes, and that's a strong argument to back up what mblotevski was sayin about people in the 18-th century not getting cancer, back then people smoked pure tobacco with no chemicals added, I believe it's the same chemicals who cause addiction too, anywayz watch The Insider (Al Pacino, Russel Crowe)

it's just wrong to increase the price of cigarettes just to make smokers quit, it's his/hers decision if he wants to smoke or not, nobody's forcing them

I think what Dido meant was that, one inhalation (?) from a cigarette will effect a non-smoker more than a smoker, because the smoker may have built up more of a tolerance to it. Albeit small and probably too insignificant to really count.

It doesn't not affect smokers, it just might affect them less, breath for breath.

I refuse to discuss smoking (I am 90% quit).

All i'll say that if a smoker who hasn't smoked for a few days goes into a room where there has been smoked, it hits you like a ton of bricks.. the smell is absolutely disgusting.

100% Agree Mystica, however it would be better if all the smokers quit to that nasty useless vice, but that is a different story.
I think non-smokers doesnt deserve to be screwed by smokers, I knew about one guy who never smoked a single cigarrete in his life, but developed pulmonar cancer because of breathing smoke of other guys. That sucks because that guy knows he is gonna die in a few years and it wasnt his fault... If I were that guy, One mourning I would go out of my house in boxers and start shooting every smoker on sight (lol just kidding)
So yeah, I suport closed spaces smoke ban and public spaces smoke ban...

A call for a closed-space smoking ban is legit. While the call for an open-space smoking, however, isn't. Because there are bigger pollution threats that should be dealt with first.

2)Death penalty is indeed a very controversial matter.
To be honest I have no opinion whatsoever about the death penalty.
I can only say about the hipocracy however-the USA support the decisions for the coutries who abandoned the death penalty but when it comes to them.....well we know that allready.

Death penalty only to very serious criminals...serial murderers, serial rapists...that kinda thing.

No to guns, as for drugs, I personally think it should be up to the person to decide, I mean there are drugs out there that are actually much safer than cigarettes or alcohol, I say either ban it all, or don't ban any.

wow death panalty is a very deep and long discussion..it's very difficult to chose a side "yes to death penalty" "no to death penalty"...if you ask me now i'll say no..no because we don't have the right to take somebody's life (even if he's an animal,a rapist ,a lunatic,killer or whatever)..that's what's right..but i can't be sure for my opinion if my child was a victim of that kind of person..sometimes -no matter what- you can't have a clear opinion when you haven't lived some things..(sorry form my english i know they suck )

He who does not value "life" should not have one.
