I just read the Avesta translated by Friedrich Spiegel. It was interesting to read, but later I read somewhere from Orientalists that his translation is total bullcrap.
I kinda find it sad that unlike Illias or maybe Gilgamesh you don't get access to the Avesta for Western people. Sure, I have the Gatha in a modern and hopefully 100 % validate translation, but the avesta...no. Can somebody help me to find a good translation of the (Zend-) Avesta (with maybe a historical, etymological and philologian glossary)? Sure,we have this page: http://www.avesta.org But I am not really eager to read the whole page on my onscreen. It's not healthy, and I'D forget the half I read. Besides, I really like them to add in my little book shelter. I already have the Shahnameh(from Penguin Classics since Germans are lazy duds), the garden of roses, the Persian letters and (liek I said) the gatha. Now just the Avesta and my Persian bookcollection is complete This message has been edited. Last edited by: Tristan_129, "I grabbed Salma's *** just to keep things moving... -Penelope Cruz |
