Hi again all,

The Tanker SS Ohio of Operation Pedistal Fame (Malta 1942).....

Well, I make RC boats, and am considering making a model of her. Only problem is that I can't find any hull drawings for below the waterline. No transverse sections or anything! Frown Most annoying. I don't even know if she was single or double screw! 19 knows on a single screws seems unlikely though! lol

Anywho, just thought that one of you fine gents may be able to help?

Thanks, David.

Operation Pedestal [note spelling]:

Wiki

Check out this guy's site. He built a scratch model, but it looks like an above the waterline view. He has an email address at the bottom of the page. I read somewhere that somebody has sent him some plans. Maybe this guy can help? I hope his email address is still valid:

That was a great idea Kaleun1961 Smile

One e-mail asking if he could help me by putting me in contact with his source, and he is going to post the plans to me!

Outstanding. Thanks again Kaleun1961 Smile

Great! Hope it works out for you. If you get her done, you'll have to post some pics. In any event, I'm curious to know if she was a single or multi screw ship. I tried my best Google Fu but couldn't find the answer.

He sent me some photos of her from the Malta museum and she appears to be single screw. I thought double myself. 19 knots (Trials) is impressive for a single screw ship!

At 1:96 she will be about 5 foot 4 inches long. I can't go into full detail on her as she is going to be a working rc model. Working as in the center peace of next years displays and she will be loaded up with free-flooding sections and pyrotechnic charges!

As anybody who has worked with them knows:

Pyrotechinc charges & detail on models = bad news!

Best of luck with it. I know from first hand experience how pyrotechnics and toys mix. My oldest brother used to make homemade explosives when he was a kid. He used to experiment on my Tonka toys. He blew up my prized VW Beetle; I still don't think I've forgiven him that one. I didn't mind it so much taking a smacking for messing with his Led Zeppelin LPs, but blowing up a perfectly good Beetle, well, that's something else.

Old style. We're talking a 1960's vintage toy.

Back onto the topic of the SS Ohio,

I am wondering what types of weapons she has? Wikipedia says the following:

1 5-inch low-angle gun (aft)
1 3-inch AA-gun (bows)
1 40 mm army Bofors abaft the funnel
6 20 mm naval Oerlikons

Most of my reading confirms this, but what types of guns???

Oerlikon is all well, but Mark I, II etc same for the Bofors and 3", 5" guns.

Anybody able to assist with that info?

Thanks again guys Smile
