Expedition to wreck of ss Bremerhaven was done last weekend. She was used during WWII for 3 years as "concentration camp" - Wohnschiff - mostly for Polish prisoners /later on also for Russian, Czech and French/ who worked near Szczecin at synthetical fuel factory in Politz. Due to heavy losses in prisoners as from 1.1.1942 she served as transport ship for wounded evacuated from East Baltic. 30.10.1944 at 07:30 LT bombed and sunk. 410 soldiers died. 2795 persons rescued.
Below please find interest. map of main wreck in east Polish coast /and main info, gallery etc about ships/: http://www.balticwrecks.com/index/wrecks.html http://gazeta.razem.pl/index.php?id=2&t=1&page=3629 |
