Hi there and Welcome.
Visit the office before you start or finnish a mission to spend your renown.Pass the curser over the items of furniture it will give you such things as your history, submanes, medals, the main one is the filing cabinet,in there you can upgade the crew, hand out medals or promote crew. When i upgrade the crew i prefer to go for the free ones, and award them as medals permit. This way i keep my renown for things like a better sub. Hope this helps in some way.

Also remember, you CANNOT accesss the U-Boat upgrade screen as well as hire new crew while in any port other than your home base. You will, however, repair your hull and get a full complement of "default" torpedoes for that date.

There is also a known bug that has been around forever. You should not make any changes or upgrades to your boat for your first career patrol. After that you can make any upgrades to your sub. Apparently messing with your sub on the first patrol of a new captain's career can result in you not getting credit for ships sunk on that first patrol. I can't really recall if this has happened to me, but others have reported it happening to them. Welcome aboard. When you get tired of playing the "out of the box" game you should get into one of the supermods for the game. These enhance the standard game, increase atmosphere, correct historical errors and resolve original game issues. The most popular supermods are Grey Wolves Gold 3.0, War Ace Campaign and Real U-boat. These all have their fans, but the most popular seems to be Grey Wolves. Check the "sticky" threads at the top of the forum main page for further info. Ask questions here; there are plenty of folks who are willing to help out.

Hello. I have been a Kaleun for quite awhile. May I make a suggestion ? Watch or read Das Boat a couple of times. You'll get the idea. Als, go on the internet. I don't remember the site right now, but you can get any manuel or pamphelet you need. It may be, replacementdoc.com or some thing like that. Also, there are no dumb questions around here. There was a moderator by the name of Vikinggranddad who took me by the hand so I could learn this game. Have fun. It's great way to spend your time. Send me a private message and I'll give you my email address. Kaluen Miechiel
