Just installed Blazing Angels 2 to my PC; Windows XP OS. Installed patch 1.01. When opening the application, get a error message "Can not initialize 3D engine". Program will not run.

I had the same problem when I first installed BA2. The problem was the drivers for my ATI X1650 video card. I had to install older drivers than the ones that came w/ the card.

Try to run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. Start, Run, dxdiag. Click the Display tab then click the Test Direct3D button. When I first did this the test failed. I uninstalled the 7-12 drivers and installed the 7-7 drivers and it fixed the problem, until last night when the problem reappeared. I don't know why. Direct3D still works and other games that didn't work until I replaced the drivers are still working. I don't know why BA2 S**t the bed.

Hope this might help.

When I finished BA1 I felt a sense of accomplishment, when I finished BA2 it was "Thank God that's over!"

Update:

Went in and checked my video card drivers, and they had been updated. How? Not sure. Maybe a Windows update thing. Had to uninstall the new drivers and BA2. Reinstalled the old drivers, reinstalled BA2, now it's working again.

I wouldn't have bothered, but a friend of mine likes to come over and do some dogfighting on my LAN, and fly some of the "experimental" planes.

I'm having the same issue. Just bought BA 2 and it will not run due to the "Can not initialize the 3D engine". I updated nvidia and directx and nothing. still getting the error.

I think Ubisoft needs to fix this, not force me to try to find an old driver that works.

http://ubisoft-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ubisoft_en.cfg/p...0x&p_li=&p_topview=1

turn windows resolution to 1024x768 before starting the game.

it is the damb drivers i tried the resolution nthing to it doesnt work my ba2 worked when i had only one card updated to sli bridged cards 2 of the same and now ..... doesnt work!! i know that if i reinstall old drivers it will work but ubi needs to come up with a patch or something! Or keep up with there games! IM in process of striping hard drives so i thyink i will have one set for the old drivers so i can play this game OR just upgrade to the new version HAWKES by tomclancy! that will probobly be updated for newer drivers! but i think ubi should give me credit for 20$ of the price since i bought this mistake of a game!
