Here it is the first stop on the Dell/Intel Extreme Gaming Tour featuring Crysis and I seem to have experienced a "crysis" of my own. You see I live in the area of the first stop, pretty close by in fact, but they're now saying the Crysis Beta Demo they have loaded on their PCs may not be opened to public sampling this weekend of the tour. They were waitng for Crytek to give them the OK due to the need for security precautions. It seems the existing demo in it's current state is vulnerabe to code theft and they can't allow that to happen. So, I keep checking back at the booth to see if there's any change in the news and it's not looking too good, for this stop anyway.

Those of you in So Cal just may luck out though, as the next 2 stops are there. Here they had me all stoked to play a said hours worth of demo, and now I feel our town got cheated out of what could have been a great experience. You can't imagine how frustrating it is to walk into a huge display booth with scads of high end machines loaded with this demo showing a loop video of the gameplay on big high res monitors but not be able to play even a minutes worth of it! Frown

The other two games being demoed, Command & Conquer 3 and Sims 2 are not at all an acceptable alternative, so I didn't even bother. All the staff in the booth were very friendly and apologetic though and a few of them rather interesting people I had some good conversations with. I even met a guy ranked 10th in the world in Quake 3. Please, if any of you out there get a chance to play the Crysis demo, post a review of it here while I sob. Crying

Only played it via the Sandbox2 so far, not had the chance to play it stand alone.

The nanosuit does grow on you though, its functions which I found alien at first, become second nature...

Cant say much more than that really, NDA and EULA get in the way... Sad

Soroc, the OE2 lead designer got to play a few different levels when he visited Crytek, to paraphrase his thoughts:
"You would think that from all the media you have seen you know all about Cryis, but nothing can prepare you for the game itself, Ive never know a level of immersion quite like it..."

I got that impression just from watching the trailer loop they had running, which just made it all the more frustrating. Despite having seen many screenshots and previous trailers, the combination of the gameplay showed and the large displays used made it hard to look away from.

I'm going to be heading back over to the booth again soon today though. There's always the hope that the news will suddenly change and I'll be able to play it. The new 27" Dell monitors they were showing it on look very nice, though a bit overpriced. When this game comes out lots of players are going to be scrambling to get the most immersive hardware they can possible afford, some no doubt going in debt by it.

I missed out on hgetting an MP beta key by just minutes. I was playing Far Cry and had shut down xfire. When I logged back in , someone who had been trying to give me a key had just given it away to someone else. lol.
