In order to get enough money to build a machine to play Crysis, I need to win contests ;-)

IFILM is sponsoring one called "Now What!" On it I speak about one of my harrowing skydiving mishaps. I'm not sure how the contest works, but increasing the number of views certainly can't hurt. This link should take you there:

http://www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2782079

If not, go to www.ifilm.com and type "Skydiver" in the search bar. You'll see me old self standing there in a jean jacket, which was, by the way, the required uniform for the Arkansas Parachute Club.. "The Circle Turkeys"

I'm working on 2 other contests also: The Quiznos vs Subway Commercial Spec and Yahoo Tech's "Hook Me Up".

If you feel so inclined, invite your "MySpace" friends, "AIM Buddy Lists", people on the street, strangers in elevators, etc., to go view and rate.

I know. I'm pathetic!

Thanks

Not sure how this works. Went to the "Vote" section and my video isn't there. Perhaps it has to have more views to be voted on.

As my shameless plug continues, thanks to your views of my little video, I am now in the "Vote" section of the contest.
http://www.ifilm.com/promo/nowwhat/vote
Cycle through and find the Skydiver in a jean jacket and click on the thumbs up icon.
Thanks

So this is you. I'm a little too drunk right now to actually vote for your video, because I have no idea how, but I will tomorrow. I didn't understand everything you said in that video, but I will tomorrow. It made me smile in any case. You studied what? Embryology? *chuckle*
And that pretty lady became your wife? Well, all I can say to that is...congratulations!

So, again, I hope to "talk" to you in the crysis forums and I actually did play through training one more time like you said and it was an amazing experience...I took out the tower guards and climbed up the one that is up that hill and I was watching all the mercs and looking at the spot with the sandbags where I would usually have been lying before I would get the buggy.

Was really nice to get to see the Cpt. and as I said I will vote tomorrow, unless I won't remember because of the booze...oh wait, I know, I just won't turn of the PC, so I can't forget!

Okay, looks like the booze wasn't even responsible for me not beeing able to vote. I think I need a little assistance. When I click your "/vote" link my browser (Netscape) says it doesn't know how to handle the file it is about to receive. The same happens when I click "Top 100" above your video. I don't think I am supposed to download any file so I haven't tried saving it to my HD or "opening it with default application".

I think I might be able to plug your video on a different forums site I visit.

Oh, and I found the video to be even funnier than last night when I just watched it for the second time.

Thanks. Its a true story, unlike some of the other entries. Apparantly one must register to vote on the video, much like the real world.
The event happened in 1972 during the 10th world meet for parachuting. I think it was the first time ABC covered skydiving. It was also the first time someone jumped with a video camera. The huge camera was straped to the side of his helmet, and the large recording tape deck was on his belly, where the reserve usually goes. Quite a site. I jumped a 35mm, mechanically wound film advance camera, hence the couple of aerial shots in video.

Sorry, man. I can't even register, when I click the "Join IFILM" button the same thing I described above happens. They must not want Netscape people there is all I can assume about that.

Well, the "Now What" submissions are over and its voting time. I'm not sure if you have to register with IFilm to vote, but I'd appreciate fellow gamer's votes. There were so many submissions that not all the videos appear. If you don't see a guy, wearing a jean jacket, standing in a yard, entitled: "Now What Skydiver" as you cycle through, then refresh the page and re-try.

http://v1.ifilm.com/nowwhat

Select "Watch and vote!" and look for me. A jury decides the 20 grand first prize, but viewer votes will determine the 5 grand second prize. Hey, that's enough to put towards a killer rig to play Crysis!
Thanks to all who have or will vote.

Along the same lines, I had entered a video for a Quiznos vs, Subway commercial contest. My daughter and I were a couple od geek lab techs scientificaly proving Quiznos is meatier. She was notified by a 'my space' buddy that they had seen her on VH1. Evidently, the spot aired on their "Best Week Ever" series. She's happy, but mortified, because she made herself up look really geeky.
That's show biz.

You know how sometimes you want to just go in the woods and scream, even though it won't do any good. So, here I am in the woods. The winners of the "Now What" contest completely violated all of the so-called rules set forth in the contest. It was supposed to be a telling or re-enactment of an event you experienced. The winner was about 2 guys playing catch on the beach. The ball gets thrown into the surf, dude swims after it, its bobbing just ahead of him, he swims and swims, exits the water and he's on a Chinese beach. Now, I don't remember anyone swimming the pacific lately. He took home $20K for that. The second place winner, $5K was about toy cars telling each other about accidents they were in. Another was a guy on a swing, he disappears, and the other guy say his name in panic.
I wouldn't mind losing out to a well produced funny video that was legal, but to lose to 15 videos, of which only three followed the rules, sucks.
Yes, The Cpt is po'd.

Nice to 'see' you again. Next up is the Quiznos commercial. That decision is Dec 15. Again, several entries 'broke' the rules by exceeding the time limit. We'll see. Saw mine on VH1 couple of weeks ago.

Hi Ellie
Thanks for the support. The Quiznos spot is being judged by Quiznos and their ad agency. Notifications were supposed to be yesterday, but I didn't hear anything. I know I'll at least win a sandwich, since the first 300 get a free prime rib sub! Here's hoping they haven't made the final decisions yet.

Hi,

I entered the Quiznos contest as well. Have you heard anything yet? I'm wondering what's taking so long.

Kicking myself that I didn't know about the "What's Next" contest. There should be a web site that lists all video contests, don't you think?

I agree. I just aggressively searched the web. The "Now What" infuriated me so much, I wrote to State Farm Corporate HQ. Of course, no reply yet. There was a total disregard for the rules.
As for Quiznos, rules said winners would be notified on or about 15 December. I'm with you. I resigned myself to the fact that I didn't win anything, since the winners won't be posted on the web until mid-January, I figured if you didn't win, you wouldn't know until then.
I just missed the deadline for Pop Secret and Doritos. Had some good ideas on those. The NFL spot was a disappointment, in that you had to appear ala American Idol. I wrote the NFL and said that they missed out on a lot of good ideas, since a lot of us couldn't afford the trip to one of the stadiums.
There's a new site launching soon www.thenextbigclip.com
If you go to YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oARtTlKYPgE
You can see a promo I made for them.
If you find any more contests, let me know, I'll post the same.
