I just picked up Prey from the discount bins and it has some really kool features like walking upsidedown, changing 'down' and really atmospheric backgrounds.

I mostly get my games from the discount bins or on the cheap from Steam. I go through cycles of 'shooters' and 'RPGs'; I am just escaping from the collapsing tower in "Snowblind". I think I am looking for RPGs now - especially SciFi, anyone have any suggestions?

I have Prey too, I held out for a low price and got the Collector's Edition for $20. It's an OK game but a bit too easy. I love the shuttles, puzzles and gravity switches though, but prefer a game that is hard enough to require more tactical methods using lean and stealth.

For extra challenge my 2nd run through I played Cherokee mode without using any Death Walking and beat it in 6 hrs 41 min. At first I thought it wouldn't be possible but there are just enough trips to the Spirit World to restore your health and lots of quicksaves you can use.

I'd have to say the boss fight against the Jen mutant monster was probably the hardest part. Mainly what made it hard for me was there was lots of lag and I could barely sidestep the monsters attacks even if I timed it well.

Sorry to say that I don't play RPGs, so I can't recommend anything there, though many say WoW and Everquest are addictive. Oblivion is another one if your system can handle it.

If you like hybrid Shooter/RPGs there's STALKER, though it's a bit buggy and stutters unless you have a real nice system and use some of the better optimization mods available.

There's also the old classic Dues Ex if you haven't played that. There's a a mod available for it now that enhances the graphics too.

One of the shooters I bought recently that is a bit of an RPG hybrid is Just Cause. You play a latino CIA agent that liberates provinces one by one on a tropical island nation.

Just Cause is a bit arcadish, but it has great graphics and very unique and thrilling stunts you can do freefalling and parachuting. There are 100 vehicles you can operate from motorbikes to boats, to cars, trucks, tanks, planes, choppers, jets, etc.

You can also jump on top of any vehicle when it's up to speed and deploy your chute for daring escapes, even base jump off any cliffs or buildings.

Some describe Just Cause as a cross between Far Cry and GTA. It's not as good as Far Cry though I prefer it to GTA. The vehicles handle better than those in GTA but not as good as Far Cry's.

There's a demo of Just Cause you can try but STALKER doesn't have one. If you liked Prey you might also like Quake 4 if you haven't tried it.

Yes, I also found Prey too easy but I loved the gravity 'gimmicks'- and I have not killed that final boss yet; sigh, my carpal tunnel kicks in and I have to quit for awhile.

Are you referring to "SnowBlind"" - I am playing that now (a d-l from Steam), it is too easy also but then I just want to have fun!

I have to stay away from MMORPGs - I started on MUDs in the late '80s and was not able to kick the habit until maybe '95 and that was just text; I am sure I could not handle graphics (I would become http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr4I45CzB4k)

I tried the demo of Just Cause and did not like the interface. STALKER sounds interesting but I will wait until it gets cheaper (heh,heh)

Elder Scrolls was fun! but so darned huge that I could never finish it and kept losing where to complete all the quests; then I kept installing all the extensions and so deeply lost I gave up. I liked that you could play it either fps or 3rd person.

SnowBlind was going to be the 3rd game in the series but got separated/redesigned so it has many similar elements. I did play the 2 Deus Ex games - what is the 'mod' for it? I think Deus Ex plays very well and would be interested in playing with upgraded graphics.

I bought Prey too! It's agreat 1-person shooter! I liked and i still do, all parts in it... I hardly wait for the Second part!

Its a pretty good game, a little tedious if you take on a lot of side missions. You have to travel back and forth through large maps to get credit for a side mission. And, just about each time, the map has been re-populated by AI.
But, well worth the time to play.

A little more OT for here, but FYI the latest Stalker patch (stk-ww-10004.exe: for the UK version anyway, may have a different file name in the US) removes a number of those respawn bugs, specifically the one at Garbage. It allegedly can be used with V10003 save games...
