No, these aren't excerpts from my darkest hours, but rather my fascination with the addictive new game Crysis, so don't call the Crisis Clinic! (Since this is not of Far Cry subject matter I did not post this in the Movie Forum.)
This game is rather surreal of course and some of the mandatory challenges of Far Cry seem to be gone with the powers of the suit, but what the heck, I forgot about that the first few minutes into it. I have to wonder if the suit failing while free falling was an omen of things to come though. I was beside myself like a kid at a Saturday matinée pretending to be a combination of 4 superheros with each selection of suit powers. I can't wait until the Invisible, Flash, Iron Spiderman takes on the giant alien spiders! I did find a few inconsistencies in the physics and AI, some of which are similar to that of Far Cry, but worse in the case of hitting people while driving. Occasionally the Fatboys in FC would stop you dead in your tracks like hitting a redwood tree, but never did I suspect this from 5' 8" North Koreans. I also found it odd a mere assault rifle laying on the ground can send a vehicle erratically swerving out of control. The AI seem to be a bit too oblivious to your presence at times. I was easily spotted holding one of their buddies by the neck in cloak mode in Divided we Fall at night, whereas I could walk right in front of another at the command post holding his bud in broad daylight undetected. In ways this had the feeling of a beta demo, aside from the aforementioned, there was texture flickering as bad or worse than FC's. Still though, despite a few minor annoyances the game looks to be a sure buy as many have anticipated, including myself. Delta will no doubt be the only level I'll feel really challenged with but I can live with that. I am now even more anxious to build a new high end gaming rig with this game's photo realistic graphics. Just the day/night cycle itself was quite a refreshing change from the static sky of FC. OK, here's those videos I mentioned. The first a fairly quick run through the demo with the non fighting scenes edited out for a smaller file size and flowing experience. I used a combination of strength, stealth, physics exploits, and a 4x4 to speed myself along. The second is purely for fun engaging in stunts with physics. I just may hold the record for unmodded flying car distance! (Note, these are made using VirtualDub and Xvid at 640x400. The image quality is very good though you will need the Xvid codec to view them in Windows Media Player if you download vs stream them. Xvid is a WMP compatible plugin, you can download it free here: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/) Crysis Demo Run Crysis Demo Outtakes |

I enjoyed the video.
You did some things I had not thought of. Using the rock to jump over the building in the vehicle for instance. And using cloak while driving and using the mounted gun. And I had been shooting the radar dish with about 50 rounds to destroy it. I did not know you could just walk up and turn it off, lol. I do think cloaking makes the game way too easy. Along with a silencer, its almost like a god mode. |

My main passion other than video games used to be mt biking, so I readily spot rocks that can be used as ramps even whilst moving at a pretty fast speed. It's a bit deceiving watching the outtakes vid though because quite often the pickup will just crash upon hitting the rock if you don't hit it just right. The 4x4 makes it over it easy though.
I too did not know about switching the jamming device off or even cloaking while in a vehicle until I started experimenting with takes for the vids. I had tried looking for a switch on the jammer but when one didn't highlight and no explosives were in sight I thought you had to shoot it. You're so right about the cloaking making the game easy, but it's almost like they're enticing you to use it with the damage parameters on the weapons/models being pretty much semi-close range head shots required. My rule of thumb has been if the reflex site red dot approaches or exceeds the size of their heads it's not going to be a given popping them once in the noggin, particularly if they're wearing a helmet. One of the things that's ridiculous about cloaking is it doesn't drain while driving and no one suspects a vehicle driving itself down the road even on Delta. If you look closely you can see the passenger of the 4x4 that passes by me look over while I'm standing there cloaked panning the gun at them, yet not even a "Huh?", like when you pass by them while cloaked on foot. This tends to indicate they hear rather than see you when you pass by them cloaked on foot, yet obvious things that are strange to the eye go unnoticed. Not good enough AI IMO for a game this advanced. I don't have the spec to do a lot of assault rifle shooting at non stationary targets while getting 18 FPS with Fraps so I thought besides keeping the file size small with a fast 4x4 method I could show some of the ways the game is too easy. Did you see the outtakes vid btw? Most are preferring it to the Demo run vid. This is definitely going to be a game that has crazy video potential. I do wonder though if much of the instant appeal of the game will soon wane as players realize there's not as much hard struggle to survive as there was with Far Cry. The sci fi nature of it may turn into a novelty that doesn't make up for that lost challenge. |

I thought it was excelent, I was almost crying with laughter the first time a wreck landed on you... Your coral of vehicles reminded me of my first experiments with SB2, almost a year ago now: Build a densly populated scene then set off a chain of explosions and at the time watch my CPU melt <font color="#ffff00"><i><b>CuZ</b></i></font> <a href="http://www.obsidianedge.net/"><font color="#990000"><b>Obsidian Edge 2</b></font></a> - <a href="http://www.obsidianedge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9261#9261"><font color="#cc6600">OE2 Media Hub: All your OE2 Media Updates, interviews etc...</font></a> <font color="#336600"><i><b>Obsidian Edge 2 </font>- <font color="#336600">Tactical Realism Modification for Crysis and CryEngineTM2</b></i></font> |

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I saved the fatalities for the end, especially the one where one fell on my head after some time had gone by. Must have been up there pretty high.
I just found out how to add a chopper to the sp demo map so I've been flying it around scaring the poor guys on the ground to death. Next I need to learn how to place an enemy chopper with AI in it patroling so I can have a nice chopper dogfight. |

You did a good job on the vids by keeping them exciting with lots of action--learned a couple things as well

Thanks for the videos. I learned some things too, the jump over the building in the car and the cloack while driving. I already made this demo 7-8 times, I like it much, but I agree when you say it's not very hard, even in delta, with this nano-suit and the possibility of auto saving game. I tried to film a little bit — when I read on some french forums that the weapons aren't precise and some players cry they need too many bullets, I wanted to show that you can kill most of the enemies with 1 shot, as you do, with the reflex sight and shot by shot. But strangely, as soon as I started to film, I had computer crashes, perhaps because of my Fraps version (2.8), with Vista. Too bad, but with 15-18 fps while filming it's more interesting to show ways as you did than shots and kills.
EDIT : I've just tested the 2.9 version, it works, I mean I have no crash, but there're new problems, I have the sound but not the image. Annoying! I tested with Far Cry : it's ok, except the video clip is very laggy, as if I had 3 fps while filming, though I had 30 and it was playable. I have Vista and with XP I never had such problems. EDIT2 : a problem with the codecs. I've reinstalled K-Lite and it's ok. This message has been edited. Last edited by: doom20071979, |

One shot kills are possible but it has to be a headshot. There is a high premium for headshots. However, an entire clip in the midsection should be enough to kill someone and it often is not.

I hope it's not a problem if I put that in this thread, but it's a video of the demo too.
Features : - delta difficulty ; - my config (8600GT, 2 go de RAM, AMDx2 4600, Vista) ; - resolution 800*600 ; - settings on medium except the water and objects quality on low ; - 26-27 fps in average while filming ; - 38-40 fps without Fraps ; - 2 parts (first 11 min and second 9 min) ; - 500 mo if you download ; - if ever there's a problem with the streaming, if the reading stops, make pause and wait some seconds / minutes. 1rst part : http://files.filefront.com/Crysis+demo+delta+debutavi/;8949563;/fileinfo.html 2nd part : http://files.filefront.com/Crysis+demo+delta+finavi/;8949953;/fileinfo.html |

Nice video, wish I could get FPS that high while recording. You did some fairly good distance shooting and quick one shot kills here and there. The only thing I wished you'd added was a bit of shotgun sneaks in cloak just to mix things up a bit. There's always a couple guys in the camp where I did the stunt jumps that hide in the outhouse when you start scaring the poo out of them.
Guys, I need your help, please see this thread: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=83610...091020406#8091020406 |

Nice videos of the Crysis demo, doom2007.
I enjoyed your complete campaign video of FarCry too, hope you'll be doing the same for Crysis. Enjoyed Six_Gun's, the different mode of play. Lol the outtakes. |

The biggest flaw and most people complaints of the game is the poor FPS they are getting on highest settings. Even those running SLI GXTs are getting 45fps. The game is great the images are unbeliveable and AI on Delta level is the toughest I have experienced. I can't say to much more without spoilers but I can say...make sure you rig is very highend or you could be disappointed with the performance.

Then again it's the most graphically advanced game available and 45 FPS is more than enough to play it smoothly. CryENGINE 2 does a pretty good job of maintaining a narrrow window of frame rates, which is one of the reasons you can do OK even with 30 FPS average. Thus, I beg to differ with you. There are many other things being mentioned that seem to be actual problems that need to be fixed. Many of them may simply be driver related, especially with ATI hardware. |

Agree with that. But a quick trawl through the EA forum shows the complaint is about their rig, rather than a flaw in the game. It's interesting to see just how good Crysis is on high settings. Quote: "I loaded it up on max settings and loaded a save game that was in a static area - nothing much moving around. The scenery is like a real-life picture, rather than an image. Of course for playing, I have to revert to standard "high" settings, that don't have all the eye candy - otherwise my lag would make it impossible to play." |

As for me not a big problem with the fps : I had constant fps, between 30 in the first levels and 25 in the second part.
I wrote long reviews in french but I'm too lazy to translate them. I'd just say this game has obvious qualities: - superb graphisms ; - open and widde environment, semi-linear progress ; - different missions ; - powerful and astonishing 3D engine ; - spectacular directing ; - not a bad script ; - a very good and easy gameplay ; - multiple possibilities of the nanosuit, accodring to the wat of playing of each player, allowing many approaches ; - action, stealth, exploration, that's all that Crysis ; - correct AI in delta difficulty ; - immersive game, with some remarkable an memorable moments . But some flaws and small bugs. Not a big problem. i could enjoy the game but it's not perfect. Some bad points : - it's short, 8h in delta, taking time and killing the enemies, but it's very replayable and we wait for custom maps and mods ; - stupid AI sometimes ; - a little repetitive in these short levels 8 to 10, there was potential though ; - bugs in the last map, the ones boring for me. - if ever you meet script problems, look on my Filefront page, I put there my savegames. But overall a very good game, a hit. |

Since I don't play mp anymore and don't like many of the other genres, I want my shooters to be fully worth the price I pay. At the $40 I've seen it for I probably would have felt I overpaid.
I'm waiting for the price to drop and after hearing many of the complaints from those whom have bought the game and perhaps the first sp patch or two as well. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Six_Gun, |

Well, I haven't met so many problems with the game, it works fine, I enjoy it.
I made a video of the 3rd level, one of my favorites. Don't watch if you don't wanna be spoiled. http://files.filefront.com/Crysis+relicavi/;9112415;/fileinfo.html |

On a positive note I have found that it actually runs better on my P4 3.0GHZ, X1950Pro 512MB AGP, 2GB RAM system than MoH: Airborne does. All the talk of sub-par performance on high end sytems with quad cores has made me reluctant to build the new uber rig I've been planning though.
