I bought it. Holy cat! It feels like I am in a cut scene the entire time.
I have never seen so much action on the screen before. And ... my system is not happy about it. FPS went in the dirt at 1024x768 with everything else set up. I backed AA off, and a couple of other things, and finally got a decent frame rate. Now am just getting use to the key settings, and trying to figure out a game style that lets me enjoy it. Not easy. It is loud and noisy, and somebody is always yelling at me to do something. Took time to get use to listening to orders, but those orders direct the flow of the game. It is not a squad game ( good! ), but there is clearly a squad mentality. I notice when I run out on my own, the squad will wait in place for me to come back and the game will get going again. Good time to go get dropped ammo and German weapons. Reason I'm posting here ... the other sites are worthless so far. Typically, impossible to get in far enough to read the threads. I'd like to get a CoD2 thread going here, because it is a better web site. The run and gunners are going to like CoD2. |

I have yet to purchase it.. I'm not even sure this ol' 9800 pro will like it as the demo was VERY rough for me. Which card are you using?

9800 Pro here too. It is not happy. I'm getting ready to up ram to 2 gig ddr400 on my AMD64 3000+. And I'm watching several places on the web which have the XL850 agp card at about $250. I'm also trying to follow posts around the web where gamers are "trying things" to get better video settings in CoD2 ... and they are failing even with 7800 pci cards. I think there will be a patch. One guy said that CoD2 was written for dual video cards, and there are bugs when detecting only one GPU. He said he got a 30% jump in FPS when he edited the setting that tells the game that there is only one GPU. Another guy said that Cat 5.11 at a minimum was required because earlier Cats are missing elements the game needs in DirectX updates. Just like Far Cry .. it ain't gonna run until the patch, and then it just might do it on the 9800. That is a good card, and I'd hate to spend a lot of money just to get the same problem .. until the patch fixes it. |

Just installed Cat 5.11 which is recommended for XP right on the ATI home
page. Looks good. Under video preferences in the Control Center .. takes a little looking ... I set AGP to 4x, and Fast Writes OFF. Now I seem to have a much better FPS at 1024x768, AA 4X, rest to normal, medium, whatever. Looks smoother too. I also notice a bit of an improvement in FPS in Far Cry. I did the Catalyst Uninstall before I did anything. I already had .Net installed. All updates were current in WinXP Pro. |

Nice game. SP, yes its action all the way, no warm up for nabs, straight onto the frontline,
MP side of things has always been good on all releases. Just a shame there is no PB on CoD2. Cheats every where already. (Go on cheaters, leave this place and goto Cod, you'll love the no PB thing) Crytek, look at their map/mod down downloading system and learn from it. |

SP is excellent
MP is a hack. It's consoled up, and borrows gimics like hit "x"'s, and hit blips. Pure xbox garbage. Its an insult, and IW should burn for it. Luckily, there are modded versions already out there that remove this nonsense, and fix IW's mistakes. How can people who did it right with the original, intentionally weaken their product with the sequal? And if you run the game DX7 mode, there will be frames o' plenty for ya. It pretty much looks just as good. The textures and detail are still there. But you will loose the heat distortion, some lighting that you probably didn't notice in the first place, and the water will look considerably less spectacular. But luckily, there's not much water. |
