No, I think if there ever were "zombies" (dont use the zed word) They would be more like 28 Days Later Zombies. Fast, deadly, animal strong. Guns and high ground would be the answer. Guns with ammo common and easy to find would be best. (I guess in the good ol USA thats just about everything) Id have to go with a shotty as these 'zombies' wouldnt be wielding weapons that would outrange you. 12 gauge rounds should be very common and esy to find, whether city or farmland surroundings.

Of coure, a good sword wouldnt hurt to have as an insurance policy. I'd prefer one handed swords, no particular type as I'm not exactly a swordsman

Or, just give me a USAS 12, a MAC 10, a Machete and some syrettes and Im good to go.

For slow moving zombies, I would have to go with a genuine katana while wearing chemical warfare suit so when their fluids spills out from cuts I wouldn't get infected.

For fast moving zombies, I'll just keep running until I find a helicopter and find a freaking empty island full of edible plants surrounded by good tasting fish.

Though my house is atrociously un-zombie proof (crap-tonnes of windows and no plywood to board them up), I do live on an island, in CANADA, as Original Poster mentioned they'd flee to Canada via boat... So I've already got 2 out of 3 down, or so. =P

The Plan; Flee home with pre-stocked survival backpack and assorted gear, break into local neighbourhood Army Reserve Armoury, where I used to work, weather or not anybody is even still there, alive or other wise, attempt to break into weapons vault, attempt to steal assault rifles and light machine gunes, but even if that fails, local bolt-action civillian hunting rifles and pump-action shot guns would suffice. Either way, while at the armoury, jack one of those massive big green army trucks (you know the ones, jacked up to drive with about 4 or 5 feet of clearance with massive bush guards on the bumpers, more useful for plowing down hoards of walking undead or small trees than anything else, I swear it's what it's designed for. and then use that to basically bulldoze my way through the streets to the dock yards (through a few grocery stores along the way too; rapid pit stops to throw lots of food and stuff into the back of the truck), drive it right onto a large docked vessel, such as a public transit ferry, or cruise ship, clear the vessel, disenguage from port and drift for a while... And some how figure out how to work the radio in the bridge to call for evac, SOS, or just find some one to talk too, cause I'd get really lonely, etc etc. And if I'm there too long and food starts to run scarce, I jack a smaller coastal patrol boat from the same marina and start island hopping, raiding abandoned home after abandoned home for supplies, munitions, etc. And if rescue STILL hasn't come by then (should be able to last a couple months on the boats or islands at least), well, then it isn't ever comming... But I prefer to plan for a happy endinng. =D
