Without flaming responses, what console do you think is going to be the best and why? I have thought of buying a console at some time, and I am currently reading previews of them all. In terms of featues, controller design, types of games for each console.

The 360 has good graphics and the best selection of games that appeal to me, the PS3 seems to have better graphics, and the Wii has the revolutionary controller. Time will tell.

For me it is still the original Xbox, as it is the only console that Operation Flashpoint if available on. I plan on getting a 360 when OFP is capable of being run on it. I just heard that GRIT is now playable on the 360.
I won't look at Sony as they have hosed me numerous times in the past with many of their products. The Nintendo seems like a good system, but they seem to be moving another direction, but I have to respect their good customer service, which is more than I can say for Sony. |

What would cinch it for you is if Armed Assault was released for 360 or would you just get the pc version?
|

I would definitely get the 360 if Armed Assault was released for it. If it is not released on the 360, I may get the PC version. I like GR better on the PC. I don't like the changes they made to the game when it came out on the Xbox. Although I prefer to sit in my easy chair and game on a console, the PC version of GR is clearly superior IMO. |

MK, any issues with 360? I have the original XBOX and haven't heard anything but bad news (power supply issues, HD freezes, etc.) w/ re: to 360. Also, I heard that new gens of current games have aspects left out in the 360 version. E.g., Madden Football doesn't allow for practice. Okay, so maybe you don't play Madden, but what do you think about the new gen in general?

Yes it had issues, but no more than any new product in the first generation production. In fact we've got 2 and the first one which was bought at launch failed a little while ago, microsoft replaced it no problems i had it back within the week. Of course if you read some info it would suggest every single one off the production line has failed but then thats what i would expect to hear in the run up to the PS3 release. Possibly the best example of some of the rubbish reported about the issues was a site i came across one night and was crying with laughter over the entire article.
The site reported that GRAW was breaking Xbox 360's, it claimed that large numbers of GRAW players 360's were dying when being taken online with the game after downloading the recent update (recent at the time of the article) Then went on to add a quote apparently from a microsoft tech support guy............
I cant find the link to the actual article because i refused to post it on xgz at the time not wanting to give the site any extra traffic, it didnt deserve it lol, but the overall theme of the article was highly inflamatory, it became hysterical when the following day they updated the article to report..........
It turned out they had made the original report from knowing 3 people on Xbox Live whose 360's failed, and were then able to discard their original 'highly scientific research' because they had now found 5 people whose 360 hadnt failed The sad thing was on first impressions the site was a decent one, so you wouldnt have thought they would make such daft reports without any real info to back it up, not only that but people did beleive it, the reason i had gone there in the first place was because i had an influx of friends on msn sending me the link demanding to know if i knew anything about it (because i run a xbox site people sometimes think i have the inside view, sadly not true lol). Some of the other issues experienced at launch included people complaining the screen was blank, the xbox seemed to have power because the lights were on but there was nothing on the screen this turned out to be due to people setting it up for HDTV when they only had standard, of course then the tv couldnt find the signal to show a picture Another was the power block is quite large so some daft people burried it under objects to hide it, the worst case reported was someone who had it under a blanket so it couldnt be seen, needless to say the 360 overheated Anyway my point being thats a great example of how the issues were blown out of all proportion and those who want to beleive it generally will. RE: Madden its not a game i play so i dont know of any issues with the game not having content it did before, from the games i do have ive not had one which i felt was missing anything. Call of Duty 2 is superb and im very much looking forward to CoD3, FIFA wasnt great by all reports in fact it was the first one my husband didnt buy but the complaints on that one were mainly online lag issues which i think most expected resolved in the 360 sadly though thats nothing new with EA online games. Overall ive been impressed, the controller is great, i loved the big controller on the xbox and was very dissapointed to see it go. Ive not got delicate hands and the big controller was the first time i could have a controller in my hands and not actually know it was there if that makes sense so after that one was disgarded i was a little nervous about the 360 one, however they seem to have got the balance just right those of us who prefered the large controller like it as equally as those who like the small ones. The wireless system is fantastic, i can move around my entire house with the controller in my hand and still speak to my friends through the headset as they can hear me (obviously i dont live in a mansion lol but its a 3 bed house so not tiny either) The arcades been great, with an ongoing regular release scheme in place, currently theres a new arcade title every week. tbh i could ramble on for ages, but its late and ive probably hit the lengthy bore post limit a few paragraphs back lmao so i think ill leave it there for now This message has been edited. Man, I haven't owned a console since the Nintendo64 and PS1. In fact, now that I think about it, I don't even remember where they are.

In which case orbit i wouldnt think about getting one just yet, if nothing else because once the PS3 has launched the 360 will be a much better price and as your not desparate for a gaming system you may as well wait for a better price before buying

Good point about the PS3 causing a price drop in the 360. Are you able to play any of your previous gen. games on the 360? That's a big decision maker as well. I have $5-600 invested in current gen. XBOX games.

Exactly what I am doing. Not to mention that in 2007 the Xbox 360 will get a new processor that is supposed to run more efficiently. @ROT Who knows, in 2007 you might just get the premium package for $299. For now I am running OGR on my PC and I downloaded the Frostbite expansion. Very nice 8 mission campaign with all new maps in the snow. |

There is along list of titles that are backwards compatible but still many not there including titles such as GRIT, no ones managed to work out why that one isnt BC yet but all the other GR titles are. You can view the entire list HERE

Umm not the new list, but the US one if you look at the url mines from the UK site looks like there a little slower to add the new games.....excellent news on grit though well spotted On a side note we just got news on a new game coming out next yr, yes a long wait but it looks like one to watch......Follow Me p.s the article only mentions 360 for obvious reasons but it is also coming to PC & PS3 |

That is unique and it really looks interesting, but sorry to hear that Hitler is in power in the UK... Um, I mean sorry to hear that GRIT is not yet available on the 360 for people in the UK. @Kurtz Thanks, I'll look into those mods, but for some reason I can't seem to run mods anymore, and as of now I have uninstalled Frostbite, and YOTM. I an only seem to run the original missions. I can't figure out why this is happening, so for now any mods will have to wait. |

|

There may be an incompatibility issue with YOTM and other mods. The way to test it is to get a small mission mod like 12 Weeks and run a quick mission. Some mods need other mods activated, I think YOTM needs Blakarion's Opfor vehicles mod.
Hope you get it sorted out, there are many great mods. Fall of Liberty sounds like an awesome game concept, I may have to get a 360. |
