Anybody else having this problem ?

About once a week or 10 days or so , I lose system sounds. When I try to play a sound file, windows displays a message saying it can not find a sound device to play the file. So I re-install my sound card drivers using the .exe file I keep for this purpose. When the installer runs it gives a mess saying it found existing sound drivers installed , do I want to un-install these and continue ?. I click yes and the drivers are installed , my computer is re-booted and all is back to normal.
Question is , why suddenly does windows not see my sound card or my drivers ?
Like I said this occurs frequently not just one time. Does anybody have any suggestions about this problem ?
My system specs are :
System: Titan / 300

Pentium 4 650 (3.4 GHz) with EM64T CPU
Asus P5WD2 Premium Intel 955X
Samsung DDR2-667 1 gigabyte
Windows XP Home Service Pack 2
Seagate Barracuda 160GB
Samsung SyncMaster 930B 19 inch Flat Panel Monitor
Seasonic S12 430W PSU (Opteron/Xeon/A64/P4)
Mitsumi 7-in-1 Black Memory Reader
Sony DW-D26A Black Dual Layer DVD ± RW / CD-RW
XFX GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express 256MB
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS
Creative Inspire T5400 5.1 Speakers
Creative 5633 Modem Blaster v.92 56K OEM -

Thank You

ok well before you read the following please bear in mind i am by no means a pc specialist lol so it could be something completly different but i do speak from a similar problem i had a few years ago.

I was messing around with the pc trying to play a file and couldnt work out why there was no sound, played with the settings and everything was at it should be so after messing around a bit reinstalled the sound drivers, bingo it was working. 2 days later the same problem so i again reinstalled and it worked, in the meantime i couldnt work out why they were vanishing but over the course of the following 2 weeks reinstalled them a couple of times as needed. It was only when getting up one morning and switching the pc on to find the hardrive appeared to have vanished that i realised the problem was a bit more indepth. after a lot of tests and messing around it turned out we had a rather nasty virus which our security had not picked up, in fact the guy who was testing the pc almost missed it himself as his usual software also didnt pick it up, only when he ran another program did it find this rather nasty trogan, some cleaning up and eventually he had it back to what it was minus all our files lol. As i say your problem could well be something totally different but on that occasion the virus just kept chucking out our sound drivers and this was the first thing i thought of when reading your post.

Wow, ms-kleaneasy, I've also had the problem with my harddrive appearing to be missing. It seems I have the same problem. I have Norton Anti-irus, but I guess it can't see this viruor whatever it is either. Can you tell me what you did o resolve the problem ? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yea thanks ms, the way I fixed the problem was to re-install GRAW, after saving my settings and save files and installing the nvidia beta drivers for open AL instead of the 91.31 drivers I had installed. This has fixed my problem for now I’m just hoping it doesn’t return, which it may if it is a virus that my system can’t detect. Thanks again for responding, Here’s hoping.
