FDR, of course, is well known for his internment of the Japanese during WW2.

If the Republic has survived both administrations, I think it can survive George W. Bush.

Not to mention Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus during the civil war, which was restored by the Supreme Court in 1866, ruling that military trials in areas where civil courts were capable of functioning were illegal.

In the beginning of Lincoln's presidential term, a group of "Peace Democrats" proposed a peaceful resolution to the developing Civil War by offering a truce with the South. They wanted to amend the U.S. Constitution to protect states' rights. These Peace Democrats, also called copperheads by their enemies, publicly criticized Lincoln's belief that violating the U.S. Constitution was required to save it as a whole. When they began protesting his constitutional violations, he had many of them arrested under military law because he believed that state courts in the north west would not convict war protesters like the copperheads. He proclaimed that all persons who discouraged enlistments or engaged in disloyal practices would come under martial law. About 13,000 people were arrested for this under martial law.

Well, the dingbat is at it again...

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/08/06/D8JB894O1.html

She simply HAS to realize how bad she is hurting her son's reputation.. I can only assume that her fame is more important to her than her son.. Kinda like Arab Terrorists whose hate Israel more than they love their children, Cindy Sheehan hates Bush and the USA more than she loves Casey....

What is so aggravating is that she is continuing this charade of saying she wants to meet Bush. Last year she admitted that she really didn't want Bush to meet with her. She wanted the fame of stalking and extorting him which she would not have gotten if he had actually met with her.

But now we know what this woman is really like. She tramples on her son' memory, she commits fraud and she is a poor excuse for a human being, let alone a mother.. I tell ya, it would not surpise me one iota if Sheehan became the another Oswald or Hinkley. She is as certifiable as they were..

Her son is probably rolling over in his grave after all the cra.p she has done to his reputation, including using his death insurance money to buy that land in Crawford so she has a convenient spot to perform her war protests. Even my half-lib girlfriend says she's a joke, and is tired of hearing about her. I hope Bush never meets with her. She's only making herself look foolish.

She's needs something to do to keep her occupied, like, *gasp*, A JOB.

You know I hate war. Anybody with any sense prays for the day when war will not be necessary. I’m not a Republican or a Democrat, but common sense forces me to try to get this message to as many hard line lefties B4 it’s too late, if it isn’t already …

To even suggest that their only objective is fighting for Golan Heights, after history time after time after time ,and even some of their most notable supporters have publicly stated that “Isreal and all Americans must be removed from the face of the Earth “ is inconceivable to any one looking at this problem objectively.

The ongoing problem here is when most liberals get together and try to convince you they’re smarter than the rest of us and that the right way to win a war is to lay down your arms and invite your sworn enimies into our home so they can see what wonderful people we really are. And that everything they’ve been taught since the age of reason, “which includes exterminating all Americans and Jews and rejoicing “, is really nonsense and would they like a cup of tea ?

It’s sorta like a “Cluster F__k “ of all your brain matter ! It comes from being raised in a household where you repeatedly are taught the “Oh please don’t hurt me, and I’ll do whatever you want philosophy. “

God help us all !

I know this is a joke, but being a joke, it's funny...

quote:
A lady liberal wrote a lot of letters to the White House complaining about the treatment of a captive insurgent (terrorist) being held in Guantanamo Bay.

She received back the following reply:

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, D.C. 20016

Dear Concerned Citizen,

Thank you for your recent letter roundly criticizing our treatment of the Taliban and Al Quada detainees currently being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Our administration takes these matters seriously and your opinion was heard loud and clear here in Washington.

You'll be pleased to learn that, thanks to the concerns of citizens like yourself, we are creating a new division of the Terrorist Retraining Program, to be called the "Liberals Accept Responsibility for Killers" program, or LARK for short.

In accordance with the guidelines of this new program, we have decided to place one terrorist under your personal care.

Your personal detainee has been selected and scheduled for transportation under heavily armed guard to your residence next Monday.

Ali Mohammed Ahmed bin Mahmud (you can just call him Ahmed) is to be cared for pursuant to the standards you personally demanded in your letter of complaint. It will likely be necessary for you to hire some assistant caretakers.

We will conduct weekly inspections to ensure that your standards of care for Ahmed are commensurate with those you so strongly recommended in your letter.

Although Ahmed is a sociopath and extremely violent, we hope that your sensitivity to what you described as his "attitudinal problem" will help him overcome these character flaws.

Perhaps you are correct in describing these problems as mere cultural differences. We understand that you plan to offer counseling and home schooling.

Your adopted terrorist is extremely proficient in hand-to-hand combat and can extinguish human life with such simple items as a pencil or nail clippers. We advise that you do not ask him to demonstrate these skills at your next yoga group. He is also expert at making a wide variety of explosive devices from common household products, so you may wish to keep those items locked up, unless (in your opinion) this might offend him.

Ahmed will not wish to interact with you or your daughters (except sexually) since he views females as a subhuman form of property. This is a particularly sensitive subject for him and he has been known to show violent tendencies around women who fail to comply with the new dress code that he will recommend as more appropriate attire.

I'm sure you will come to enjoy the anonymity offered by the burka -- over time.

Just remember that it is all part of "respecting his culture and his religious beliefs" -- wasn't that how you put it?

Thanks again for your letter. We truly appreciate it when folks like you keep us informed of the proper way to do our job. You take good care of Ahmed - and remember ... we'll be watching.

Good luck!

Cordially, your friend,

Don Rumsfeld

Providing they survive the time it takes to dial 9-1-1...

Actually, I think that part of the program should be that they give up the right to expect emergency response..

Kinda like when my wife and I stayed behind in our beach front house when Hurricane Floyd was bearing down on the First Coast. We were advised in no uncertain terms that should an emergency response be necessary, none would be forthcoming..

That provides ample precedence for those who wish to rehabilitate terrorists to understand that they are completely on their own with their new pet terrorist.

I hear ya..

It would really break my heart if my stubborness caused harm to come to LEOs or First Responders.. But we lived thru the Oregon Floods of '96 and if Floyd wanted to take everything we had, he was damn well gonna take me too!

But it all went OK. We lost a couple trees and our pool, but not too much damage...

@SOD, I got an email and thought it came from you!! Veryhappy

quote:
IN PERSPECTIVE
"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation's capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

And I'm supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was "desecrated" when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? Well, I don't. I don't care at all.

I'll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia.

I'll care when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi tells the world he is sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called "insurgents" in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs.

I'll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution's Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don't care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured that I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank that I don't care.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed "special" food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being "mishandled," you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts that I don't care. < BR>And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes it's spelled "Koran" and other times "Quran." Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and ---- you guessed it - -
- I don't care ! ! ! ! !

--"Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don't have that problem."

I wish I had sent it..

With the exception of the religious overtones of that last part, it reflects EXACTLY how I feel..

Kinda like when the discussions of the terrorists perspective came up in the other threads..

I DON'T CARE...

Far as I am concerned, terrorists should be given their due process, then lined up against a wall and shot and then buried with a gutted pig.

THAT's the best solution...

/Rant...

Big Grin

EDIT: That's a great email. Thanx for sharing it with us...
