Ed_1, you're correct. There are more important issues to discuss here (in a Ghost Recon 2 forum) than what roles women play in real life SF,etc teams.
We need to know things like, when do we get to see a pc version of the GR2 demo?!?! I would like to know what I should be expecting. It's nice to see the console players are happy with what they're getting, now how about the pc players? |

Hey Kimi, that was lame. Thanks for your modzi concerns though.

I doubt theres a woman in the world who could make it through SAS selection. Feminists tend to totally discount the obvious .... like biology.
Women not being allowed in front line combat roles is probably because they bring out competitive instincts in men rather than the camraderie that is imperative to a cohesive unit. That said .... who gives a rats clacker if theres female soldiers in the game. Forum Moderator |

I couldn' agree more tonytwotoes.
Well Kimi, you can also add such stuff to the Forum Rules. I checked it out yesterday, and the most important thing discussed was sig image size. But no show on stuff like attacks against other people aren't allowed, flame wars, stuff I gotta deal with in my forum area. Thank you for your suggestion Flanker.
I checked out the forum and signature rules again, and it seems like we combined threads to streamline stickies a while ago. So the forum rules are there, they are three posts down though. I'm going to consider moving rules to the top and signature rules under. Thanks We've also been bumping the ** Notice ** thread (that we decided not to sticky because some people seem to never bother to read stickies Ubisoft RVS/AS, GR, and Far Cry Moderator |

Yah, we got a million (though I'm somewhat guilty of it) stickies too, but still gotta slam somebody for not reading rules. Go figure

Bit disappointed to read a lot of the comments from forum members, really had hoped that the 21st century might have really arrived, but clearly one or two members of the forum are still in the 19th..
Firstly, just a quicky: Women in Spec Forces I don't think the South African forces are known for their political correctness and they seem to have coped fine. As to the SAS qual course, it's been interesting to see the DS running the "Are you tough enough" selection course modify his attitude. Season one he repeatedly shouted "There are no women in the SAS.." - by season two he was openly admitting that the a number of the women were demonstrating good abilities, and I was impressed myself by some of the calm fortitude, and good leadership qualities that some of the women provided to the group. As to the physical side, the oft quoted upper body strengths are average values and there will always be members of both sexes who are at each end of the scale - such that a woman in excellent physical condition, at the upper end of the stats curve, may well be entirely capable of satisfying the physical requirements of any given challenge. The SAS course is an interesting example because it's far more related to *mental* endurance than physical strength - in fact, the SAS will not recruit abnormally large or physically overdeveloped soldiers because they'll stick out like a sore thumb. The SAS are really looking for a bloke about five nine to about six foot, middling build, who looks nondescript, not an Arnold Schwarzenegger clone. Final point to whoever claimed there were no afro-americans in spec ops troops, citing pictures from Afghanistan. Quick question - you're putting together a special forces team to work alongside predominantly muslim tribes, they have to blend in, and look (at least from a passing glance) to appear the same as the rest of the Muj or whoever. Given that requirement, will any afro-american's fit the bill? And, as a final point, it's well worth pointing out that just because something happens to be the case currently, is not a reason for it to remain so. Black men were excluded from the US army for many years, and even when permitted to serve, were kept very strictly segregated, yet many were able to serve their country with distinction in world war II, and have done ever since. And, it's a game...I think it's excellent that Ubisoft have included women in the teams and that they're depicted as being regular troops, not helpless pawns... |

STOP.
I`m now sorry i opened a topic in wich people that understand english better than me can`t read between the lines or even the lines themselves. I writhdrawn that statment about black people a while back in the topic. And i was refering to womans in the US army not other army . In the begining i said that i had NOTHING AGAINST WOMANS AND BLACK PEOPLE but most of you failed to understand that. Womans are like 7% of all the US army so they are to few to threathen the big bad males. All i was saing is that if there are womans in game it is not accurate to make them US special forces you could have a South Korean woman sniper or chines or whatever even the female SWAT sniper from my country but not US . Just alittle real life accuracy. Now you get my point? |
||||
|
I understand your point, I just disagree with it - and the Ghost recon squad isn't purely US anyway - there are other nationalities present in the squad.

"I have nothing against woman in the military.
But the US dose not allow wman in combat now and it will not change in the next 10 years so why are womans in GR1 and 2. If you want to play as a woman then you should have a quick charachter or somthing at the begining of the campaign MP game but not as a standard specialist like Diaz." Let's have a lesson here: 1. As per above, alfa_fsb, wants to know since the US military (specifically the Army, since it is what GR1 represents right?) does not put women into combat jobs. 2. Four (4) pages later, he has to come back and re-clarify his point. He doesn't really grasp (no offense man) the American culture, so he asks "why not have it available only for quick missions, or MP?". Somebody EARLIER on could have something like this: "It's because that's the way the RSE guys decided to make it." There's no reading into anything when it comes into game design, and besides honestly, nothing beats a good looking woman with guns who knows what to do. 3. So why not just answer the question without bringing semantics into it. I'm pretty sure he didn't need it in the first place. He just wanted an answer that told him what he needed, and that's all that was needed.
