Before I forget again, I just wanted to thank LOC, or Rugg, or whoever it was for pointing us in the direction of this codec for use with the AVI-Maker.
Although I still prefer to use Fraps for much of the recording (it's just so much more spontaneous), I did use the AVI-maker quite a bit in my last movie, and I also saved my "master" movie in alparysoft format. This meant that when I did the final conversions to .wmv for distribution I still had a pretty much "perfect" source to work from. In the past my movies have always suffered badly from multiple compression, but this time I was quite pleased with the visual results... by my standards anyway. You can still tell which clips were Frapsed, but they were at 800x600 this time rather than the 640x480 I've used in the past (on the principle that this is the final release size usually, and 640x480 is a lot easier on the hard disk when my movie projects tend to eat up whole hard disks!) Anyway, thanks again. Andrew McP |

S! Andrew
Never heard of AVI-Maker until today. Could you please explain a little more what are the advantages in using AVI-Maker? Is it better then GameCam? GameCam website GameCam does not have the Quality that Fraps has. The one thing GameCam has over Fraps is less of the hit on your hardrive with little or no lag during capture. Is this also true with AVI-Maker? Thanks Best Regards |

The AVI maker creates the video from within lomac, rendering 1 frame at a time. This process is veeeery slow and it takes a lot of time rendering just 2 min. But quality is very good though..
But i still prefer fraps. But i have a very powerful pc, and i can record with fraps and maintain the fps i set fraps at. I have it at 25 fps, and that's the fps i get when recording. I can also have it on 30 fps, and maintain that fps when recording. |

Sorry for the confusion 310, and thanks for explaining GA.
On the subject of Fraps, I've been wondering if a RAID HD setup would improve Fraps performance. In theory it would, as there are advantages saving data as well as accessing it. But I'm not sure it'll be enough to justify the extra HD. The ideal capture solution would be AIW-style vid cards which had a high definition video output and input. In Sync or Swim I piped the vid output from my LOMAC pc to my lower spec "non-gaming" machine, which could easily handle the capturing. However the low-res TV output made it a *very* smooth but rather ugle movie. I don't know of any high-def in/output on vid cards though. That's why the in-game AVI-maker is so nice as an option if you do want really high quality source material. I just have problems editing tracks well (ie punching in an out to edit already edited tracks) so it's far easier to just fire up Fraps and make multiple captures going through the track several times. S!
Thanks guys for the reply on AVI Maker. I to prefer Fraps also. Nothing wrong in looking at AVI Maker and see what kind of results I come out with. Best Regards |

Lossless codecs
MSU probably best compression, but slower. Lagarith best stability and performance Alparysoft was good during a period HuffYuv was good during its time. |
