47Mb file downsized to 35Mb to make room for a 10Mb version.

I had 2034 downloads from my site and 1700+ from Check-Six before demand dropped off towards zero. (For anyone interested, demand always peaks and drops off with a typical Gaussian distribution; the first three days provide 90% of the downloads). So it's now a good time to make room for a modem-sized version for the 100-200 people who usually download it.

For the record, this movie has had quite a lot more downloads than any previous movie I've released (mainly thanks to the Check-Six mirror... I didn't realise how many French-speaking flight sim enthusiasts there were). So it's a very good sign for those of you working on movie projects. There's certainly plenty of interest still out there for your work.

OMFG!!! ARE U FRIGGEN KIDDING ME??? Eek This must have taken forever to make...this has to be one of the BEST lomac vids out there! You really go up wid amraam and others as the greatest vid artists out there bow Others concentrate on color editing, visual effects, ect., but you have phenomenal views, camera positioning, presentation..this was really true art! You kept lomacs natural colors and drawdropping graphics and I've never seen such views, everything is so graceful, brings a tear to the eye Crying GREAT job man..now i'm gunna add this to your whole collection of all your other vids on my HD! The great news is that your a fellow flanker fan like me...so all these great vids will specialize with the Flanker, or at leat i hope so Razz KEEP IT UP..I WANT MORE!!!

As I've said before, I appreciate the efforts of guys like G_A, but I'm not a big fan of cosmetic surgery... even if the results are sometimes absolutely *stunning*.

It's probably a Brit thing, more emphasis on content than appearance, though there's definitely a compromise to be struck, and I *am* learning to bend my self-imposed rules.

This time I used sharpening on most clips. It *does* create more of a "grainy" look under compression, but definitely helps replace some of the beauty that the whole compression process squeezes out of Lomac's excellent graphics.

> KEEP IT UP..I WANT MORE

Yea, well, maybe next year some time. Unless the new physics on the next plane inspire me before I've finished (or even started at this rate) Half Life2.

My pleasure. I usually try (which isn't the same as succeeding!) to offer something a little "different" to what you and others do. I love the fact that everyone, yourself included, has their own style, and it's nice to see how other enthusiasts tackle the same subject.

That's why I've shied away from H2H combat in the past... too many excellent movies already! I needed an angle that might allow me a different viewpoint, and the "Jaws" thing gave me that angle. Mind you, it took me forever to merge it into the Gershwin piece in a way which I was happy with. That was one of those background projects that went on & off for months while this idea was on the back burner.

andrew, am downloading your latest, im sure it will be amazing

however i do disagree with your views on colour tweaking in post production, i feel that it gives a much more realistic feel to the movie.

most hollywood films colour will be tweaked during post production (have a look at the lord of the rings: fellowship of the ring extended edition dvd for a documentary on this) i have tweaked most of my movies aswell (two more will be coming in a few days, called tanker and pearl harbour)

it helps you, in my opinion, get the shot right and to not be too concerned getting the perfect lighting techniques while actually filming

i also used colour tweaking in my 2 live action films, although i mainly done this to try and get away from the 'DV video look'

i think a film maker should use all the tool at his disposal to achieve the vision he or she wants

of course, if what you want is not to tweak then that is of course up to you?

EDIT: just watched the movie, its different, and its great. editing was brilliant, i enjoyed the jaws bit hugely. the beginiing 15 seconds were inspired, especially the upside down "and"

excellent work

2.2GHz AMD, 1Gb pc3200, 256Mb X800Pro. I record trk files (only two used in this case), then play them back looking for good clips which I record there and then using Fraps2. The trick is to play the trks back over and over (and over!) recording different "takes" of the same section. You can then work with this in the editor to bring things to life.

The vid card is a bit of a luxury, but that's one of the advantages of getting old ;-) And it seems to have helped smooth out my in-sim frame rates... though there are still nasty pauses when flares or smoke or buildings appear for the first time. That keeps catching me out.

Anyway, frame rates are more consistent than when I had a 128Mb 9700Pro. But the biggest improvement I've had was when I moved from an Abit NF7-s motherboard to a DFI Infinity and reinstalled WinXP. With the old setup Fraps captures stuttered badly. I always suspected there was something strange going on because others got much better results from similar machines. Now I can record smoothly at 20fps, full screen in Fraps2 while flying Lomac at 640x480, x4fsaa. I see no point in trying to record at higher resolutions because (a) fraps files are huge even at 640! (b) the editor has less stress when working with smaller files and ought to be more stable and faster (c) the end result is always compressed heavily for distribution, so working at 800x600 or higher is pointless. Smaller files also make it easier to back up data while you're working, which is important because over various projects I've had several nasty moments when it looked like I'd pushed my PC too hard and trashed data.

Mmm... I think that's enough on that subject :-)

That's fine Raven, I'm totally in favour of people doing whatever they want with their work, and I've never said any different. It's just that my aim is to show off ED's work (in a *very* small and inconsequential way :-), not compete with Hollywood.

Basically I'm a Lomac movie maker because I've always liked ED's work, not because I like movies. So for *me* it would be dishonest to mess with the Lomac footage too much, because Lomac simply doesn't look like that.

But I stress that I enjoy movies with plenty of special effects all the same, and some of the work by by G_A and others is absolutely amazing. The imagery really could be from the real world.

I have no problem with that. But I don't want Lomac to be an actor in my movies, I want my movies to be a window into Lomac. Whether I succeed or not is a different matter :-)

Thanks Andrew for the great info and advice.

The movie is another excellent addition to my collection.

Ive had a BFG 6800 GT OC for a little while now along with an AMD Athlon 64 3200 - so im glad to see that my machine should at LEAST be able (!) to record something as good ... I just need the talent now Wink

Once again - Congrats on an excellent vid - look forward to seeing the next one - partner permitting Razz

Sorry for taking the files down without proper warning, but I only have 50Mb of space to play with :-)

The large version is still up at http://www.checksix-fr.com/ just scroll down to the "Top du mois" section on the right. I'm very grateful for their mirroring.

Just watched yer movie, and I don't think I've seen a movie either in Lock On or IL-2 that had a soundtrack that fitted so nicely with the action.

Really excellent stuff!!
