Ok, I hate trying to be constructive, because it often looks very critical on paper. But heck, we all know how much effort it takes to make a movie, so we're starting from a position of mutual respect.

Right, that's the group hug thing out of the way. Now I can get the knife out. ;-)

First, nice idea for a movie and you had a good go at executing it well. But (and there's always a but! :-) I think the movie could have been half the length and still not lost any impact.

Many of your scenes are a little on the long side with nothing particularly happening in them. If you use the <shift><esc> modifier for the F2 view, with the zoom function, you can often liven up such transition shots with an unusual camera angle.

When I say transition shots, I'm thinking of shots which carry the plot from one key section to the next. LOC and GA are experts in very tightly packed, high impact movies which have very little need for transition. Besides, they can both spice up just about *any* scene, no matter how dull, to make it seem out of this world.

However us mortals have to struggle a little harder. :-) Dobberman does a good job of keeping his movies pretty "tight", with interesting transition scenes. I *try*, but a few weeks after finishing something I can always look back at a "finished" movie and see plenty of places I could have dropped scenes or re-shot them.

The problem for me, and perhaps for you in this movie, is that it's easy to get caught up in shaping the movie to make good use of the music. Music can be a great tool for shaping a movie, but it can also handcuff you into situations where you end up having to fill a period of time until the music reaches a peak of excitement or mood matching what you have in mind for the action in your movie.

Mmm... this is all starting to sound a bit long-winded. Fortunately the LOMAC avi-maker has just about finished the short clip I'm re-recording, so I'll get back to work and leave you in peace.

Hope some of that helps. At the end of the day the more movies you make, the better you get, and you're doing very well so far.

Thanks for your comments.

I agree with you on the music aspect, though I didn't think about what music to use until I had finished the movie.

My original movie was a good 20mins long, so this version is much "tighter"

GA makes awesome movies. I am sure the guy must be a video arts student. If not, he should be!

I will certainly try that shift-esc-F2 method you mentioned.

I am also going to try for shorter movies, as I think most ppl would rather see a good short movie as opposed to an okay long movie.

Thanks again for your ideas and thoughts

Adding music after you have edited the movie is kinda the wrong way to go, IMO anyway, because, in my opinion, the music sets the mood and feel of the movie.

And i don't work with movies in my daily life, i just learned to make movies on my own, so its more like a fun hobby. Happy

Glad you like them though, if people didn' like them, i probably wouldn't bother making any! Tongue

New movie is completed here btw, gonna post it tomorrow. Cheers Happy

GA,

All I meant was I think your movies are the best out in the community. You defineatly have a talent for it.

I can see why your movies are great. I think it's the music that certianly moves the story along.

Next time I will try and see if I can use the music as I make my movie and see if it is easier than adding it in after the fact.

Thanks

Opps, sorry for the first part of my post. I got your message via email and I saw the word "Happy" and thought you were somehow being sarcastic.

I didn't realize that it was the code for a smilie!

Boy, do I feel dumb like bunny Frown
