The new #1 movie.
A must download. It's been said before... Just when you thought the videos couldnt get any better... Well....BAM, heres another one!! Great job and EXCELLENT editing effects. The beggining was alittle slow, but when the action started it made me sit up from my chair! |

Well, it's a great job !
You should have spend a lot of time on this production, especially on effects ! Excellent ! Leaving area and frequency... |

First off, excellent eye for views and superb editing, as usual with you. I particularly like the use of the "from the pilot's moving eye" cockpit shots merged smoothly with the action footage. I've yet to work out whether something similar's possible with Vegas's little brother. I think there's some sort of masking option but I may be confusing it with Editstudio.
Anyway, having patted you on the back, seeing as this is the movie forum I'll also put on my critic's hat. Apart from anything else it stops my bald head getting cold at this time of year ;-) Ok, it'll come as no surprise to find I much prefer movies with a plot (which is why I'm a big fan of dobberman's work in particular). The big strength of compilation movies is that there's plenty of interesting footage (because you don't have to worry about it making sense! :-) However the big weakness is that without something to glue the clips together you can end up with a muddy overall feel. I also get many moments where I think I'm watching the next bit of a fight only to realise it's a different fight, and that can be a bit unsettling... for me anyway. I think this movie could've been, well... any length from about 4mins to the full nine without losing any shape or impact. Actually at about five or six minutes it might have kept a little pace. As it was I confess to getting a little weary waiting for the action to start, and a little confused during that phase because I couldn't work out what was going on. I thought I was watching the start of one big mission for a while. When the action started I was *very* impressed indeed by the editing techniques, you and G_A really have got a talent for bringing clips to life. But after a while I got the same "oh look, another shooting" feeling I've had from other compilation movies (from other makers) in the past. You can have too much of a good thing and often, as they say, less is more. That sounds really negative, but it's supposed to be constructive critisism, honest. I'd feel more comfortable about being critical if I didn't make movies myself. But hopefully you know me well enough to know I'm harder on my own work than I am on anyone else's. Ten minutes after I've released a movie I usually want to delete the darned thing and apologise for not working harder on it. Maybe I'm just weird ;-) Anyway, thanks very much for your hard work on the movie and for reminding me I must work a lot harder on my camera angles and "feel" for combat. You have some genuinely superb clips in there that have been given some excellent treatment. Well done. Andrew McP |

Ty for the comments Andrew. You are correct about collage type movies being easy to do and easy to forget, so I tried to have some theme to it, with the intro being both a showcase of LOMACS beautiful graffics and scenery and the intro with planes taking of for battle.
Then obviously the action scene is lots of different dog fighting clips, and I tried to tie it together with the ending of the damaged planes trying to make it home. I have another movie to release that is totally different, and has a story line. You will probably enjoy it |

quote: No movie is *ever* easy to do :-) Well, ok... I've seen a few that must have taken at least half an hour to throw together, but I'm not going to name names ;-) As for being easy to forget... individual movie elements may be forgetable, but there is an awful lot to be said for using compilation movies to hone the skills which make you as a maker very memorable indeed. And your skills are definitely going from strength to strength! In fact I think my work would be a lot better if I relaxed a little and didn't try to make every project such a Big Deal. Maybe I should have a little fun occasionally and see what happens :-) Andrew McP |

Just watch your latest movie "No Fear". I'm very impress with this film and I think this is maybe your best film to date. You have an excellent eye for camera angles/view and your editing skills using Vegas are first rate. Very well done.... Please check your private Topic at Ubi. Best Regards |

Ty falcon, check your messages.
p.s. Unfortunately it looks like the Legion server is down. Keep checking if you haven't been able to D/L the movie yet. I'm sure its temporary. |

quote: Perhaps they've throttled the bandwidth now it's gone back up. On a movie's release day it can pull 500+ downloads. 500x 100Mb is a *lot* of bandwidth unless you have a very understanding ISP or a bottomless pocket. I'm not sure which category Legion falls into. Andrew McP |

bumb for mirror update.

first off i massively enjoyed the film, the camera angles were superb as usual, i especially loved the shaky dolly cam as two planes are taking off
i think for your next film (i havnt downloaded your new newest yet) you should concentrate on a story, all those nice, beautifully framed images mean very little without context its quite hard to visualise a whole sequence in your head for a story based film, wheras in a 'music video' style like this one, any nice image that pops into your head will do other then that i loved it |

Hi,
It sounds really great. But ... Windows Media Player 10 says it can't find one or more needed codecs. What codecs do I need for this?? Thanks. |
||||
|
divx 5.1.1 codec or better

Sorry, but that doesn't do it for me. In fact, I upgraded from 5.1.1 to 5.2.1, and even tried to play the file in DivX Player as well as Windows Media Player 10. In DivX Player, it stops at 1:36 into the total time of 9:31.
Any suggestions? Daddy Schlich |

the file might be corrupt? If you are able to see video for the first 1.5 min, thats probably what it is?
