Hi there.
I have been pretty amazed by your work, however I noticed that some older movies are no longer hosted anywhere - and if they are, the site says like "sorry, download quota exceeded" I don't know if you are aware of this, but there is a way of distributing large files without causing large bandwidth bills. It is called BitTorrent. The latest BitTorrent release has a feature called "trackerless seeding" that allows anyone with a leased line (flat rate, T1) to host large files without running a so-called tracker. So basically you just host a short .torrent file (describing the file) on a web server and you run the BitTorrent client. Your upstream bandwidth can be pretty limited but yet you can share the file with hundred or thousands of potential downloaders WITHOUT causing a high bandwidth bill. That would be a nice way to distribute or re-distribute high quality movies. |

Just looked at some hosting options.
Ive used these guys before - last year when I did a small website for a relatives business - anyways they give you even more now... might be of use to some people .. (no I dont work for them! just passing on that they were sound for me...) http://www.powweb.com/PowWeb/OnePlan/Detail If anyone knows of better hosting Id appreciate a shout. (sorry to jump in ~- No Sense Of Direction -~ |

Bittorrent is great for popular files, but the movie file has to exist somewhere all the time with enough space and bandwidth to seed random access long after initial release when the vast majority of downloads take place. That's not cheap to arrange for most domestic net users. T1 is for universities, businesses, and rich folk :-)
BT only works well if lots of people download and continue to seed, which is rarely going to happen with minority interest files like LOMAC movies. Andrew McP |
