Glowing Amramm - As always, I've always enjoyed your excellent work in these movies. Could you answer a question regarding your "missions" - how do you get the aircraft to perform as you need them? Do you fly any of the aircraft? Alone or with help with friends? I know nothing about mission-building so if you could explain the basics of how you get the aircraft to do what you want as "director" it would help me understand what to do to create my own. Thanks in advance.

For every dogfight, i participate, running the dogfight mission twice, or more. First i fly the F-15, next time i fly the SU-27 and try to capture cool stuff from both sides (like the su-27 almost smashing into the ground, and the near-miss of the missile).

For dogfights, i just create a couple of planes, usually 4 for each side. Then i just fly the mission and see what happens. Then i go over the track and find cool angles.

For the "chase scene" at the end of the movie, i first fly the F-15 chasing an AI su-27. I just set the su-27's altitude low, and made random waypoints all over the place close to eachother, so he would turn alot.

Next time i fly the su-27 chasing the F-15. In the end, you get something along the lines as seen in the movie. Smile

That's great - thanks for the response. An yes, that move with the Sukhoi and the near hit at 10ft AGL was amazing. I know you are still setting up your website, was wondering if you had a comprehensive list of camera angles' settings avail. I know its a topic been said before, and probably beaten to death but I can only get bits and pieces and not the whole picture of setting up these angles and positions. Every time I see what you do with Ver 1.12, I get the urge to upgrade from 1.02! I'm gonna have to succumb to pressure, lol.

As a curiosity, what do you do in your "non-virtual" life? Movie director?

Cheers.

Edit: Also, when you fly your mission - are you recording at the same time, or are you saving the track, like in IL-2. I tried saving a track in Lock-On, only to not be able to playback and customize the camera angles, etc. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Check out this thread on Lockon.ru as lower down they discuss how to playback and change views and camera angles (open the track in the Mission Editor and use CNTRL/E to edit then save as a new named track).

In case you haven't come across it before, LOTU is a simple util that unlocks views on tracks, get it here if you need it.

Yeah, what brit dude said ^^^

And yes, i play my mission then save it as a track, then i go over it to find angles and views.

And every view you see in the movie is available with lockon 1.02 Wink Not much difference there between 1.12 and 1.02.

And no, i dont work with videos for a living. It's just a hobby i've had for about 4 years now. Im only 20 years old, so maybe in the future i get to work with videos as a job. Smile

Thanks, guys - I obtained the utility, and I've started a new notebook to write all this stuff down. I know that these views are avail in both versions - I just look at the little bit extra you get from having 1.12, and drool. I've looked around to various shops for Flaming Cliffs/Gold and found they've all disappeared/discontinued (waited too long Sad). I guess I'm gonna have to order a copy from TrackIR (along with the TrackIR 4 - that'll make the wife happy, lol Tongue) As for the views you guys have obtained, if I remember past postings, some of them involved changing settings in lua files or something complicated that. I guess experimenting is needed. BTW, do you use TrackIR? Your cockpit view panning is always so smooth. Anyways, I've finally got FRAPS so I have a movie idea to try out. I've done some minor movie-making with WinXP MM2. Also where can I get a copy of Sony Vegas? I've found Nero7 DVD-something-or-other at Futureshop - is this basically the same as Vegas?

Thanks for the input/info

One more thing - I've been searching the forums and other fansites for tutorials of complete single-mission building, doesn't seem to be any. Specifically trying to get aircraft to begin on the pad, taxi out, takeoff, fly, land. I tried pasting a flight of one on an apron, but the editor only gives the options of 75ft agl, 50 kts ( Veryhappy) and the option to attack or land. For a mission - you should at least be able to get the aircraft to sit on the tarmac.

Thanks for any help

Check this thread of IronHands over on Lockon.ru where he announces two new tutorial movies that may be just what you are looking for?

Not entirely sure I understand what your problem is or what you are trying to do.
Are you trying to set up your flyable to start on the parking area so you can taxi out, takeoff and free fly for a while, then land?
Or do you want an AI aircraft to do this?

@Brit - Actually for both AI and myself. I did manage to get the AI to start on the pad - I had to place the a/c icon over the runway symbol to get the option to take off from runway/parking options. I did a test circuit having the AI fly around a nearby city, then RTB. That problem solved, I just need to experiment now. Sorry for being confusing.

EDIT: forgot to thank you for the links: I'm not in my home city at the moment, but will check it out. They're what I was looking for (I did visit his website but didn't see these links - I guess they're new?).

When you first place an aircraft (AI or flyable) on the map, the waypoints you make all default to a regular turning waypoint. After you have designed your route, just change your first waypoint to takeoff and it will automatically "Snap" to the nearest airbase, You dont have to place it exactly over the runway symbol. Ditto your last waypoint for landing.

For carrier capable aircraft you have the option of placing an aircraft carrier on the map, and if the carrier is the nearest to the waypoint you change to takeoff/landing, it'll "snap" to the carrier. Similar for AI naval helo's from carriers/frigates that can carry them.

Glowing Amraam, you kick major A$$ when you do youur vids. Damn I wish I could go ahead and get the patch for my version of LOMAC. I can't wait to start flying missions.

BTW, I need suggestions on a new joystick. I installed MS Office 2003 and it gave my old MS Sidewinder the boot. Now I'm debating whether or not to spring for the Ch products Stick and throttle or get teh new Saitek. (althouhg I dont' particularly care about the front ofthe joystick. it enclsoes my hand and I don't particularly care fo rthat.

keep up the KATN work on vids. A<RAAM. I'll alays watch 'em when you post 'em.
