just wondering if anyone has another option...
The in game avi conversion tool for lock on is a joke, and rarely works, and takes hours to convert a 5 min or so track... fraps use to work great for me, but for some reason, it's locking up my system every time I go to use it... plus lock on is too graphically intense to use fraps... get recorded stutters. I was wondering if it was possible, I have a raedon 9800 XT w/256 video ram card, to connect my digital video camera to my graphic card, (I guess sound wouldn't get recorded?), via the s video or digital out video and record the replay... then upload it via my video editor software? Have you seen the video Maximum G? Or any of the ones I've made? They were made using the AVI tool and the tool isn't a joke. If you have a marginal system (and most systems are marginal when you include LOMAC into the equation) then FRAPS is as much a pain as the AVI tool is. The good thing about the AVI tool is that you can record your tracks on high res regardless of what kind of rig you run.
I have an AMD3200 and for me the AVI tool renders quicker than recording half speed w/Fraps then having to speed the track up again in Vegas 5. Then you have to edit in the sounds as at half speed they're all messed up. From what I've experienced the AVI tool is quicker. Performance and mileage may differ. I laugh at all the online wannabes who think they're Dirty Harry or Rambo. Those of us that are skilled w/real guns laugh at these n00blets. |

ya i've seen your video's, nice ones, great job...
and maybe I should of put IMO in front of my avi tool is a joke statement... I love lock on, but that part of the program has been a royal pain in the donkey, so for me it is a joke... I have a pretty damn good system, (P4-2.0 mhz (thats my weak area), 2 gigs of ddr ram, Raedon 9800XT w/256 video ram, 3 hard drives, one operating sytem, one games, one video editing... running windows xp pro fully updated including drivers... (im not an idiot, i know pc's, i know video editing, I use vegas 5 also, and make tons of real world videos ect ect) in reference to the avi tool... I've tried every single codex (spelled wrong) including huffy and divx.. with every different type of setting I can think... 25 fps, 30 fps, 25% quality, 50, 75, and 100... half the codexes tested didn't work out all, all but two of the remainer only had sound... I tried converting complete tracks, small made quick tracks, and even 1 min track...most codexes were over 2 gigs including the much harold huffy and divx for just 2 to 3 minutes of footage... and as we know if it's over 2 gigs it's corupt... so when i say the tool is a joke i'm not talking out of my donkey, i've spent hours trying to learn and use it... if it works for you GREAT, i'm glad... now how about sharing the knowledge on how you did it, what settings ect ect... like a tutorial or something. oh, i should meantion that I did find a new working way, and it kicks but...still working on the sound issue.
I hooked up my digital video recorder using the s cable input to the raedon 9800 xt s video output... and now can record anything and everything on my computer screen, at real time, without any pc resource hit what so ever, ...It just has no sound right now...still working on that short cut. (I then upload the recorded game footage in my graphic editor and edit away, the picture quality is top notch too... cool, Magnum50 www.militarygamers.com www.magnumforce.us |

Set the sound for your sound card (in the SB Software) to record "What you hear" if you have an SB card. Don't know what the settings are for onboard sound.

OK, I'm no expert at this (otherwise I'd already have a movie out there!) but I have something that works. It's labour intensive, takes up a whole lot of HD space and needs a lot of patience, though.
First, record your 'master' track, and keep it very, very safe. Everything else will be video edits of this one track. To get a single shot...
Rinse and repeat for each shot Finish movie in your choice of video editor Have several large beers (you've earned every one of them) Post movie so we can all see Good luck Gary Online photo album [This message was edited by GarySheriston on Wed September 15 2004 at 01:08 PM.] [This message was edited by GarySheriston on Wed September 15 2004 at 01:11 PM.] |
