I'm sure many of you have heard the audio track of the two F-14A's from VF-32 flying off the John F. Kennedy, shooting down a pair of Libyan Mig 23 Floggers in 1989.
If you haven't heard it, here it is: http://www.56thvfw.com/download/f14combat%20Libya%20MIG-23.ZIP Libya II: VF-32 Swordsmen kill two Libyan MiG-23 Floggers in 1989 The day is January 4, 1989. The airspace close to the Libyan coast. Two VF-32 F-14As from USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) fly a mission as Combat Air Patrol when a pair of Libyan Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 Floggers were detected. The MiG-23s had taken off from Al Bumbaw Airfield near Tobruk and they continued their flight towards the US fighters, even though the F-14s radar had locked on the bogeys. It's a common procedure under such circumstances to lock the powerful AWG-9 radar on the incoming Libyan fighters, to give them the possibility to turn around and head back home. Usually this procedure was impressive enough to drive the Libyans back since the radar warning tone resulting from an armed F-14's radar was fearsome enough. But this time it did not work. For the second time US Navy F-14s were engaged by Libyan fighter aircraft under hostile conditions. During the 8 minutes engagement, the MiGs kept turning in on the Tomcats to maintain a firing solution for their Soviet built air-to-air missiles. As later examination of F-14 still photography resolved, the MiG-23s were armed with AA-7 Apex missiles. After several evasive maneuvers by the Tomcats and aggressive maneuvers by the Floggers, the incoming pair of MiG-23s were declared hostile and the F-14 crews were cleared to engage. The crew of the lead F-14A, AC202 fired an unsuccessful AIM-7 Sparrow missile, while the second F-14As, AC207 AIM-7 found its target and destroyed one MiG-23. Thereafter, the lead F-14 closed in on the remaining MiG-23 and launched an AIM-9 Sidewinder heat-seaking missile. The missile exploded in the tailpipe of the fleeing Flogger. The pilot of this MiG-23 also managed to eject from his destroyed aircraft. Both pilots were seen with good chutes. After this engagement, the victorious Tomcats headed north for the carrier. I was wondering if some creative person might perhaps feel inspired to re-enact this encounter within a Lock On video, and include this audio track. It sure would be mind blowing if done properly. This sounds like an excellent idea, but this can't be done with Movie maker. If so, i would have to find a suitable song, and integrate the radio-voices into the song. But of course, we would also need some aircraft sounds, to make it more realistic..
Adobe Premiere Pro seems like the perfect choice, but i don't have that.. __________________________ |

it would be difficult because the f-14 isnt flyable, you would have to put in some work to get any live cockpit views. Other than that it is very possible, similar to the TopGun remake that is out now.

Yeah, it would be a LOT of work to do it right, but it would nevertheless be mind blowing.
Couldn't one of the current mods be used to insert the F-14A skin over the F-15C's flight model and thereby make it into a quasi 'flyable'? Insert the appropriate VF-32 Swordsmen skin scheme and numbers to an existing high res skin and Bob's your aunty. But the cockpit views would be a problem because nothing looks like an F-14 out of the forward canopy except an F-14 ... but a carefully constructed compromise of cockpit shots would still be entirely possible and produce a fairly convincing result. I think there is more than enough open source info about the engagement enough to really bring it to life, and show in detail what really happened before in the lead up to it, during, and after the engagement—in terms of how the engagement was announced and reported, from BOTH sides. There is plenty of TV footage available to supplement various aspects of the story as well. Weave some of the pre and post-engagement TV footage and reporting into the video for scene development and perhaps insert some ‘documentary style’ commentary on why and how it happened, etc. The possibilities are endless and the result would be absolutely awesome. I'd love to do this myself but haven't developed such skills yet. I hope someone feels like taking this admittedly big and time intensive project on. If done properly, and with passion, (also, music is not necessary, or should be used sparingly only for ominous and dramatic, though subtle effect) it would become a classic A2A combat flight sim video—a real keeper guys. Who would like to do it? zzzspace | www.vaaf.com | “Life’s too short to be a Purist” – Clive Robertson. |

sounds like an excellent idea. it would however be extremely difficult to pull off, for the reasons listed above.
i dont think you could integrate music, just lots of sound effects. it would be quite difficult to get the planes to do what you want aswell |

I didn't imagine it would be easy; that's the fun part I reckon. If it were easy someone would have done it.

Hey Glowing_Amraam,
If I remember correctly, it's been done. But if my memory serves me, it was done with Falcon 4. I'd have to dig my video file CDs to be sure though... |
