Hi

I've been involved in virtual movie making for some time. FB/PF tandem mostly and as I recetnly started playing a lot more in lomac I am thinking about making lomac aerobatic movie.

No to the subject, most aerobatic lomac movies I've seen so far are - altough being very good quality in terms of cinematography and editing - are in the style "let's get hard rock music and off we go to show the stunts from the begginning " and most of the stunts are showed in a continous way.

Now Im wondering what would you think about slightly different approach. Its an Il2 movie
but I am thinking concept here than the lomac
movie. Heres the link for the movie:
http://www.knm.org.pl/video/318.avi
(work in progress render, 3 mins, 35mb, divx)

Just a quick note, as this might not be clear in this part of the movie. The lonely Me109 you see on the movie is the team ground coordinator who -during practice flights - sits on the deck and coordinates the team. The B&W parts are meants
to be his visions/retrospections.

POsted this to il2 forums earlier but wondering what people here think about this. Comments and suggestions really apreciated.

Thanks!
ps. if the site give you some weird error try again, as you just hit max users limit.

Kichu,
Why don't you finish this thing so it could be hosted all over?!? You know that if you put it off, you won't want to later and it will bug you as if it is a chore. The music is great, it lets you reflect on the beauty of flying. thats why we all even play these games, because we love to fly. Take us to that next level with your camera and let us see what we never can see in real life! Cmon bud, you should be showing FINISHED stuff, not test footage! Thumbs Up

Hi there Kichu,

You wanted feedback, here it is. All in all, the camera angles are very good. I agree with you about tha NOE flying, specially under the bridge. You need to change that.

Your mix of stills and footage could be smoother. The one thing I believe you haven't made your point across is the "visions/retrospections" thing. Initially, one would think the B&W segments were the memories of the first aviator that shows up alone in the beginning of the movie. But then, IMHO, you make a mistake: you mix colored (current) footage with **very similar** B&W (past) footage. This causes an unconscious disassociation between B&W and past time in the viewer's mind.

Keep pressing. It's looking good!

JavDog: I know, i know, however its easier to say that done. The hardest and most time consuming part here is not the editing but "the filming, ie. recording tracks". All the stunts are not AI mission where you can setup the whole nevironament, record and get the video. Its more compilated from logistic point of views. First you need to have the team at a specific day. And if I wanty different shots than standard il views we need to put static cameras where we want and make the team fly there and/or someone else must fly video camera. Getting the tracks is what takes a lot of work, not capturing & editing. Im working on the project but it's going to take longer than expected.

Kuoster: my normal and hi-speed ftp site is down
Im afraid and it will take a while to get it back. We had big storm and big electirity bang there. The server is non-existant at the moment and we have to get the new hardware. $$$ involved. Did you get the movie ?

Muttley: Many thanks for watching, I will look at the scenes again and will think of it. Not sure if I change anything, but you dfinately got me thinking... thanks!

Anyone else, have you managed to get the movie or shall I look for another host again ?

Thanks

I do agree that hardrock is not always the best music for aerobatics movies, however aerobatics is still exciting and that movie put me to sleep. Need to find a middle ground Wink

RAF_Kitchu, nice test.

I REALLY REALLY like you directorial style!

The fisrt few shots, while beautiful (in theory) were kinda jerky, and it brought the whole scene down a notch.

Lovely Camera angles (i loved the dolly shot across the street as the plane is flying towards you)

Also nice use of the 'artificail pan' that you used in your last film, it really adds another dimension onto your shots

Burner, thanks for the comment Smile Dont know that to say, its a matter of personal style I think Smile I dont sleep when watching this, probably I
almost dont sleep anyway Wink On the other hand
hard rock music I used to hear in many other movies gets me boring quickly or I've heard it
almost everywhere - baten do dath van Halen and Offspring for example

Thanks, Raven Smile I tried to be pretty selective when choosing the video material. As for pans,
they do work I agree... its kinda addtictive once you start to used the material without those pans seems to be very static. Time consuming issue, I have not get any 'camera operator' background so all the pans are done by
the feel... I know the pro would change this and made this look even better.

Could you elaborate a little more on that. Im trying to figure what you meant and can't. Probably because I see the things different there and am not nativ speaker.

Drako, they are not that mad. They usually fly nice and tight and listen to the leader Smile Thanks!

Thanks again
Kris

The shot from timecode 00:25 - 00:50 (or thereabouts) is quite jerky and not smooth.

Then again, you have 'Change This' written on it so i presume your going to reshoot it.

Yep, you are right. The clip is recorded fine with no stutter, in the rnder its played on slow motion 50%, its temporary filler. I had this in the movie with some other scenes, but didnt liked it and throwed it off.

Thanks!
