The new F4/chase.lua view is a great addition, but so far I've not been able to work out how you can look down as well as up, relative to the plane of the aircraft*. There has to be an easy way of doing this... everything else seems to be configurable after all.

Anyone worked this out yet?

Thanks for the suggestions, but they don't work (for me anyway).

My interest in solving this took a nosedive when I realised this view's only available for your own aircraft. I thought it was a global replacement for the F4 view.

So don't go wasting any brain power :-)

Um, is there any way we can alter this view?? What if i wanted to place the camera on the left air-intake, looking forward. Then i'll get that same cam they used in "Top Gun" for some scenes Tongue

Really, can it be changed? Closer to the plane, for instance..

Mess about with the x, y , z coordinates of the viewpoint origin in the chase.lua. file. It's nearly a superb view, but not being able to look down or use it on non-player planes (so far) is a creative handicap.

Andrew McP

PS I assume you've noticed mouselook works in this view. There are some clipping issues, but that's to be expected and can be worked around by moving the origin

Thanks andrew, i'll try that. But i don't get any clipping issues.. If you do, i suggest a reinstall, that will fix it, that worked here. Happy

I think any clipping issues depends upon where you put the viewpoint.

Well, when i first installed the patch, and i moved the camera, say half a meter away from the planes body, it started clipping into the camera, so i could see through it. After a reinstall, i can now put my camera down to 1 inch away from the plane before the camera starts clipping. Happy

Btw, andrew, what happened to your "movie making work"? You quit making movies? Your movies were great.

The competition's too tough now :-)

Actually, after a long break from Lomac I am messing about with a few movie ideas. But it's not like the early days when I felt there was some point to showing off Lomac. Then there was a chance our efforts might help promote ED's work, but now I think we're just preaching to the converted. Mind you, that was probably the case all along :-)

Yeah, back in the good ol' days, we made videos to show off lock on, now we're making videos because it's fun, and we're really playing with the whole jet concept VeryHappy Dazed

I was inspired to go make an effort to produce something, but came up against a timely example of why I spend less time with Lomac to avoid frustration.

I just spent an hour doing a short takeoff, go around, & landing sequence. Took me many, many "takes" to get it right, and it was very satisfying to finally nail it. But if I play the trk back from the cockpit (dull view number one!), it works as I flew it. If I mess about the any interesting views, the plane diverts from its course and crashes unpredictably on landing.

I was going to cry, but then I remembered it's only s stupid game ;-)

Please, try to use the Local camera moving mode in the F2 view. Press Shift-Esc in the F2 view (the F2 view name changes to F2L in the info bar). Then rotate the camera around its local axes to direct it down. See the Doc/KeyCommands.doc file for details, please.

Thank you Valery, that's a very useful camera mode. But the great thing about the new F4 view is that the aircraft stays fixed in the view when the aircraft manoeuvres. That can create some very powerful images.

hopefully i'll be able to get some killer camera angles with this game, and i hope to integrate this with lock on to get an integrated storyline also

hope it works out...

it will also be a movie with just sound effects (on the 'other game' anyway... might use some zimmer with lomac)
