I downloaded the trial version of Vegas 6.0 and for the life of me, I cant cut a piece of a track from the time line. WMM2 has simple, plain english descriptions for the functions, but vegas6 is so complicated, Im not able to do even the simple things. I have been reading the downloaded manual and find it all to be to confusing. Nothing is straight forward.
How do those of you that use vegas 5 or 6 manage to work with it? Its supposed to be one of the best editing programs out there right? Why so non user friendly?
I would like to learn to use it, but do I have to go to school and get a degree in video editing first?

WMM 2 is so simple because it is extremely limited in what you can do with it.

And Vegas 6.0 is a lot more complicated because you can do A LOT with it.

This is just the way it is. And i can tell you, if you think Vegas 6.0 looked complicated, you don't wanna try out Adobe premiere. Tongue

I have adobe premiere elements, (came with photoshop elements) but i have never installed it. I would expect the more expensive programs to cost more, but i would also expect them to have some basic terminology and a user friendly tutorial section to help teach people how to use the program. I am looking forward to learning to use these programs for what they can do, I just didnt expect a total departure from the basic terminology used in other programs. Why not just click, drag, highlight, cut/delete etc. instead of eight steps to remove a section of a clip.
Sorry to be so negative, bad day.

"Why not just click, drag, highlight, cut/delete etc"

could you please tell me how to delete a 6-7 second section of a clip that i captured with fraps and now have in vegas 6.0 . I have some how put two markers at the beginning and end of the part i want to cut, but i dont know how to designate that section for deletion. What steps do you take (in vegas 6) if you find a piece you want to cut out?
Thanks

Click on the clip where you want to cut, and hit S. This will split the clip right where the marker is. Now you have 2 clips, sort of. You get the idea Happy

Oh yeah, after you've split the clip into the parts you want to keep, just click on the parts you dont want to keep and hit DEL key.

Thank you so much. I am excited about vegas 6 once again. I wish I could have found the simple answer you gave me, in the pdf manual. I will have to look into all the quick keys to really start to enjoy the program.
Still learning my camera angles and tricks in my track files so I can actually make a decent movie for DVD and possibly to share online with all of yall.
Thanks again for the help and putting up with my frustrations in my first posts.

Hi Glowing_Amraam !
The famous Glowing_Amraam! Man I just love your movies! I read this thread and you mentioned ADOBE PREMIERE and VEGAS. I got both programs in the latest version and I am planning to make a LOMAC movie (my first one).

So you would definitely recommed to use VEGAS because it is easier to use?

Kind regards
Thomas

Hi. Yeah, i would say go with Vegas. It's easier to learn, but at the same time, it can do pretty much what premiere can do.

Why render your movie to .avi ?
usealy they are huge in size.
.wmv for example gives a smaller file.

There are lots of programs which can convert your movie in the file format you want.

Maybe by searching with google. "Type .avi ".
