Kinda need more info on what you know about the software .. but for starters.

The very first thing you will need is a plan .. know what you want to capture .. then set your plan in action .. try to do it in short bursts or else you will have to go through reems of movie footage that clogs up and slows your system down. In short you need a begining .. middle and ending section to your movie. Once you have these thought out .. right them down in a story board.. adding drawing or pic (from mag's) perhaps showing just what you plan.

To capture the footage you will need Fraps or Guncam.

To edit the movie you will need Window Movie Maker .. free with XP (has its limitations) 5/10 or

Sony Vegas 6 or 7.. going up a good few notches here .. takes a little while to get to grips with the bells and whistles. 8/10 or

Adobe Prem Pro .. Nearing the top of the editing suits .. I used it once and found it near impossible .. but by those that master it 10/10

Camera angles .. I dont make movie in Lock On but watch any Glowing Amraams you wont go wrong. Just try not to take an angle shot that would be impossable in real life.

Music is down to you and the type of movie you are making .. you can edit in a few short pieces to fit your footage .. or pick one long piece and wrap your movie around it.

Then all you need is luck whisper I will add more as and when I think of them.

Well i've heard of fraps and i,m told thats good but i also hear you have to pay for it which is something i really don't want to do. I would also be grateful if u could tell me what music to use. My movie is going to be quite fast paced with manouveres and high speed breaks. That kind of thing. Thx again Thumbs Up

i've just been looking around and came across glowing amraam's tomcat tribute movie. it's truly impressiveClapall credit to GA. Apparently GA uses fraps which is a shame because i'd like to make that sort of quality movies without having empty pockets.

Fraps or Guncam is a must fraps lets you shoot movies with the trial version .. but you can only capture a limited amount of footage at a time .. then you have to edit out the Fraps water mark .. I can advise how to do that if you dont know.

Again I have to say that the music is really upto you and the movie you are making.

Any thing by Hans Zimmer normaly fits quite well into this type of movie.

Just dont use the Bee Gees or the Bay City Rollers ........... Hammer

1) I use the render that comes with the sim.

2) I use a lossless codec like MSU, Alparysoft, there are 3 others

3) Then I make the initial crop of each clip and recompress with the same lossless codec.

4) Recompress all clips into a XViD version.

5) Then I use the XViD versions and load them into AVISyth while programming the video. Using XViD versions AVISyth can play the video realtime while you make small changes. Just reload the script and play again.

6) When the programming of the video is correct you edit the script so that the lossless files are used instead. Take VirtualDub and set the final video and audio compression start the final compress and go to bed.

---

AVISyth has a myriad of functions for various tasks.

Loading a video file.

file1=avisource( "myvideoclip.avi" )

Amplifying audio

file1v1=amplify( file1, 1.4 )

Delayaudio

file1v2=delayaudio( file1v1, 0.25 )

Changeing FPS without changeing the length of a clip or, changeing FPS and changeing the length of a clip thereby making it play faster or slower with:

ChangeFPS()
or
AssumeFPS()

Ability to change the pitch of the sound without changeing the length of the audio clip thereby making a voice darker or brighter (and the software does this very well too with the best algorithm out there).

The ability to mix in any number of extra audio without having to do any intrusive work on the audio files themselves.

avi1=avisource( "myfile.avi" )
wav1=wavsource( "enginenoise.wav" )

finalclip=audiomix( avi1, amplify( wav1, 1.8 ))

return finalclip

And there are functions for clipping cropping etc etc blending and animation, exporting movies to a series of BMP pictures, or taking a series of BMP pictures and making a movie out of them. Or taking a single BMP and having AVISynth repeatedly retransmitt the same BMP frame by frame making it into a still movie clip.

And as I said you use the XViD files to "train your scripts on", then you change to the lossless files and make the final run.

CODECs, AVISynth 2.5, and VirtualDub cost you zero money.

The only obstacle with AVISynth is all clips have to have the same width, height, FPS, audiorate, stereo or mono setting except overlays the can have the size you decide.

This system relies entirely on the effort made by the movie maker. But on the other hand produces the biggest, sharpest, most high FPS movies compared to any other production tools. And you don't have to pay anything, it is all free.

But for your first few movies you probably should start with a simpler system, and then if you have the energy i recommend using AVISyth.
