All,
The United States Army will be hosting an America's Army gaming event at the GameStop at Universal Studios, Hollywood, on December 20th. I will be there along with SGT Tommy Rieman, the Soldier featured on the cover of AA:TS. Come by and pick up some free swag and compete for some autographed action figures of SGT Rieman and a US Army branded IPod Nano.

If you're in the area between 1400 and 1900, take the opportunity to play America's Army against America's Soldiers and see what we're all about.

Pictures to follow!

We won't be on XBox Live at that event, just some local competition. After I get my 360's installed in my recruiting stations we'll get some Live competitions going. I'll be hosting rooms with a few of my recruiters and going head to head with all takers. Those that beat us will be eligible for prizes like the ones we're giving away in a couple weeks. I will post those events both here and on americasarmy.com a week or so in advance of when we're doing it.

I will post some pictures of our event in Hollywood as soon as I can, thanks to those of you that squared me away on the joy that is photobucket a while back!

CPTBrown48,

For all of us that can't make it to California, please tell the troops there that we say thank you.

Great news! I would be there if I didn't live a thousand miles away. I think it is very good for all parties that the Army is promoting the game like this. A common message spread by the media is that "violent games are bad" etc. and I tend to believe some politics were partially to blame for the bad reviews of the game. AA:TS is not nearly as violent as many of the other popular shooters and has all the obvious benefits of teaching positive things to people, whether they consider enlisting in the army or not. So many people are so quick to shove off this game as a recruitment tool etc, which obvious it is partially. But the fact is the game is so much more than that. In my opinion, the game does a couple really important things. The first one being that if kids play AA:TS they learn things important in all of life. Communication skills, teamwork, selflessness, to name a few. Whether they decided to join the military or not. I think this is something the media has really conveniently ignored about this game, it really is so much more positive than many of the other games out there. Of course there will be people who become more interested in the military by playing the game, but those people will be given a realistic version of how things work.

If kids think war is like COD where you kill 214 people with an MP5 in 2 minutes then isn't that much worse in general? I just think this game and the Army in general gets a real negative spin by the media and this game basically throws some of that back in there face IMO. AA:TS offers positive gameplay aspects that no other shooter offers. How could pwwning and teabagging ever be a considered a better skill than communication and working together. There is no way and if any honest reviewer says different, you know he/she is getting paid, or being threatened to not get paid. The game also really just shows the Army in a positive light and I would be proud to have members of other countries (not that will be able to, of course, but if they happen to) play the game and be able to view America's Army from a positive point of view. Comparing this game to Soldier Of Fortune is a good example. It's good to know that the recruiters are going to set up the game in the office, it will only increase the pool of smarter new recruits and also increase the community of the entire game. They should do at all the offices! The military has been innovators in gaming in many ways since that first tank simulation game came out in the 80's by Atari (I played that at the Exploritorium in San Francisco when I was a kid, by the way), if they keep supporting this game, maybe the user-base will explode. The results of such a thing happening would only make gamers, and the Army happy, right?

The real-heroes tributes on AA:TS are awesome. There are many out there like me who acknowledge all the selfless sacrifices these soldiers have made and hold a high respect for there dedication and hard work. I would be honored to meet Tommy, and hope all who go to this, watch his True Hero video because it is intense and shows how awesome these guys are, and also realize people like him, are the reason we can enjoy playing video games comfortably in our homes in America.

Our event at Universal Studios went off and we had great time! I'll get pictures from my Soldiers when they come back off of Christmas leave next week. We played a lot of AA:TS, gave out 10 copies of the game, a bunch of t-shirts, countless copies of the PC game and Real Hero action figures. SGT Tommy Rieman was on hand to autograph his own action figures and hand out copies of his trading card too.

Thanks to those that stopped by and I look forward to doing this again. Our next planned big event will be throughout the month of March on various college campuses in Los Angeles that will include a tournament and a chance to check out the Virtual Army Experience.
