God I wish first person games nowadays focussed on realism and didn't focus on gore. Why can't guns jam, magazines drop, accidental discharges, realistic hand to hand combat occur etc. I could go on all day about it but I won't. I guess hardcore simulations just aren't appealing to the masses. What do you guys think?
Oh and btw the mp5 is designed to push back into your shoulder, not kick up at the sky like some crazy owen gun lol.

Well...

... the majority of games now a-days are geared towards the younger audience. Gore, special effects, and other types of eye candy is what draws them in. The more they use it in games, the more kids buy them.

Now, Raven Shield is probably the BEST first person shooter to come out in YEARS. It has the perfect middle ground to realism and cartoonism (like Unreal, Quake, Counterstrike etc).

They did a decent job in that they added what was necessary and didn't go overboard. Your mention of magazine drops and jamming are not as common as you might think.

Having been in the military and having trained and been in combat with a pistol and rifle (in the sand mind you), I never had a jam and NEVER once dropped a magazine from the gun. I could low crawl 200 feet and never drop a magazine. It's just not that common.

I'd also say that these guys in the game (Rainbow Six) are HIGHLY trained specialists that probably rival, if not exceed the SEALs and/or Delta Force. I would think they maintain their weapons enough to reduce the chances of a jam, and probably wouldn't be losing magazines.

Wink

Hope that helps. But as I said, Raven Shield is by far the better FPS out there. The ONLY thing I'd say isn't all that great is the AI (which seems to run circles when shot at on Veteran). A fix for that, play on Elite and they'll get a tad smarter.

Well... nothing will ever get you the realism you need for something like that. I was in from 2000 until 2004 and nothing prepared me for it all.

If you want absolute true realism... your best bet is America's Army. It's a little corny at times (like the bootcamp), and a little hollywoodish (like the weapon sounds), but all in all it hits the mark pretty well.

I played that game for ages and it never was what I was looking for. I guess it just had to much realism to it (I was stuck with certain weapons, stuck with certain team positions, etc). Not the freedom I have like I do with RS. But everyone is different.

Since 2001 games have been focusing
on what they call "Realism"
but its often an excuse to use
ugly graphic effects like
bloom , blur and other things
that make the game WORST and LIMITS
colors .

In the end a game wont be real since a
lot of us cant go around shooting
people but the suggestions made by the first
person in the post sound like good
game features .

But with the way that EA games , Atari
and Ubi are releasing games . I doubt
any real game play features like that
will be seen in the next 5 years

The only thing I can tell you is to drop by the studios in my sig and check out the forums ldlon0. While some of what you are asking for will not be in the games, I think you will like what you read about.

Because realistically you don't want to drop your magazines. Guns don't accidently discharge unless they are in the hands of someone that shouldn't be handling one. As long as you maintain your firearm properly the chances of jamming are scarce. Besides... misfire and jams are easy to clear if you know what you are doing. Jams and misfires would be really annoying in a video game. It would probably happen more in the game than it does in reality.

The MP5 does climb, just like every other 9mm carbine. There's a right way to fire rapid fire and a wrong way. In video games your persona fires machine guns like a novice. It's not like the player can make the character tuck it into a rapid fire position and lean into it.

Besides in video games the guns have less range than a BB gun and I think they are less accurate too.

The stop the crosshair is still shrinking. It should never take anyone that long to aim after sprinting. The crosshair should go right back to closed instantly after you stop firing or running.

When you use guns long enough you don't drop magainzes and you don't accidently eject magazines. You don't even have to look at the well, you hit the well everytime and the magazine goes right in.
