Yes, Raven Shield will run on XP. You just need to install and run it as an administrator.
Regarding video card, just about anything sold by ATI or Nvidia today will be sufficient. |
my pc has ATI radeon xpress 200 that's not sufficient i guess? how about rogue spear and ranbow six 1 still runs on xp?

Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear both run on XP though you might have to install and run both in compatability mode.

It might just about be capable of running Raven Shield at low resolution and detail. |
What type of video card slot do you have on your PC? AGP? PCI? PCI Express?
Also, interesting tidbit: R6 runs on my Vista desktop and laptop, but RS doesn't run on either. |

my god.. im new on pc updating and stuff so where can i check? i must open my pc? |

Go to Start> Run and type in DxDiag then click OK. Let it run completely and save the file to disk. Copy and paste it here in this thread.
Is this a store bought PC or is it a custom built PC? That is the biggest thing that is needed to be known. If store bought, what brand and model is it? "Do not build your community around a game.... The good news is you have a PCI Express x16 graphics slot so any PCI Exprexx GFX card will work. I don't know how much money you want to spend, or where you are, but a EVGA 256-P2-N386 GeForce 6800GS 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail should fit the bill. It will not play any recent games that well, but should be able to run in your PC. Remember, what ever video card you get, make sure it has at least a 256bit memory interface.

will it be able to play swat 4 and rainbow six raven shield? i will spend 200.00 dlls maximum :S

I don't see why not. RvS is a 5 year old game and that card is about 2 years old or so. The only problem you may have is not enough power supply (video cards now have to be plugged in for extra power or they do not run properly).

k thanks

I would suggest something more recent than a 6800GS, if only because the newer cards require less power/run cooler. A 8600GT would be a decent contender, as would a slightly more expensive 8600GTS.
Given the age of your CPU, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the width of the video cards memory interface. |
oh ok so buying a 512mb card doesnt make any difference?

That is why I recommended something a bit older. His CPU will be a bottleneck with a newer card, not that the memory interface will pose a problem. Remember, that is the interface for the video card only, not between the card and the rest of the PC. Matter of fact, video card memory is for video only, nothing else and the wider the better. The 8600GT/GTS are cheaper and AFAIK perform comparably to the 6800GS. The 8600GT doesn't even need an auxilary power connector. Both cards support DX10, so it won't be obsolete if he decides to switch to Vista before dumping the card. zisouroland - a card with 512MB of memory is only necessary if you're running at high resolution (above 1280x1024). Even if you were, the CPU would still be the limiting factor. |
so what im deducing is that.. i need to update more then just the video card?

Are you also wanting to play newer games or just older games? I am under the impression that you are not wanting to play much more than Raven Shield, which really does not need a DX10 part. The fact that you want to play the original Rainbow Six (a DX7 game) might have problems running on a DX10 part as I know I have problems running Rogue Spear on a 7600GS. I have 4 windows all showing the same thing when I run it, yet R6 runs only in one window, go figure.

To play Raven Shield? No. As I mentioned before, your current onboard video might even be able to play it. |
