OK, so I happened to stumble upon Raven Shield in the bargain bin (along with FarCry, by the way). Installed without problems, updated to 1.6 without problems, runs on Vista without problems.
Except for the stupid need-CD-in-drive-to-play. And yes, I said "stupid". If I wanted to shove a disc in the drive every time I wanted to play a game I'd buy a console. No, I'm not asking about warez. I pay for my games and I prefer to have any issues fixed without resorting to websites et. al. that are mainly about playing games without paying for them. So, is there a fix for me? Ubi? Anyone? |

Game Devs don't allow this because it would allow people to easily install and pass along the games.
The term is No CD patch, and it's very much so considered as warez. Whether or not a “No CD” crack is warez or not is a matter of opinion. UBI themselves have famously informally referred players requiring technical support for a certain game to go grab a crack off the web, and even formally provided such cracks in patches – such as that for Silent Hunter IV no longer requiring the disc to use the mission editor or the full game.
Sadly though this seems to be hit or miss and mostly for more recent games. While UBI did this for SH4, they still have not done so – and probably will not – for SH3. Why? Probably because they have no one around who knows the software. I am not kidding. The reason we cannot send a man to the moon today or build a classic battleship is because there is no one left who knows how to do it. Raven Shield is an old game my friend. Released in 2003 it is considered a dinosaur and I can practically guarantee you there is no one at UBI that would know the first thing about releasing a patch that would allow it to be played without the CD; so therefore there will be nothing official. As for the warez argument – you bought the game, what you do with it is your business, EULA be damned. |

Thank you. Sure, I could probably find a fix for this faster than I can write this post, but I figure Ubi at least deserve the opportunity to resolve this issue. I mean, I do care about playing "legit" (I know, I'm weird like that). What I want from the publisher (apart from it being a game worth playing) is that I don't have to deal with more crap than strictly necessary. It's hard enough to keep up with hardware requirements, driver updates and patches. I think it's reasonable in this day and age to expect gamers to be online once for installation/activation (providing measures are taken to ensure that the activation server doesn't suddenly vanish into thin air). Having the disc in the drive, or being online, to play, not so much. |

Also keep in mind that Punk Buster will kick or ban you if you have the No CD crack installed.

Depending on your country's copyright laws, you could investigate the legality of using an ISO image in place of the CD. Most copyright laws allow for this.

Sure, but as I mentioned above, this is more about giving Ubi the opportunity to fix this issue. |

So can Some one Please walk me through this process to make it work since Im on the same boat. |

There is absolutely ZERO chance of UBI fixing this. They haven't released a patch for this game in 6 years. Your only legal option is a CD image.
No-CD patches are illegal. Your only legal option is a CD image. Read above. - Twilight, RvS modder/coder - Member of unfinished-games.com dev team |
